Depends on your team. If you have a 1C it’s Makar, if you have a 1D it’s Petersson, for me and I am biased it is Makar if everything is equal.

3,4, and 5 in that draft are heads and shoulders above everybody else.

I highly doubt they ever reach the levels of Makar/EP. the only guy who you could argue is Heiskanen

I agree 100%. It’s very close between Makar and EP, with Heiskanen close behind. 3,4,5 way better than anyone else in that draft

No they shouldn’t. Patrick first needs to prove he can stay healthy and then that he can produce. Hischier needs to prove he can produce at a higher level.

Makar has been the best D in the NHL this year. Heiskanen is excellent but I’m still taking Makar

Makar is WAY worse at defense than MH

In terms of overall play, MH is the very best young d-man in the league

Again I strongly disagree with that. Makar is great two way, especially for a young D. He plays like a veteran out there

Statistically that's just not true. Makar is in a league of his own this year and that's why there's a lot of talk about him being the early Norris favourite.

Heiskanen was a monster in the playoffs though.

If given a choice I'd take Makar because Norris level RHD's are the rarest breed in hockey. Oh and he was also the first rookie to pace for near PPG last season in like 20-30 years, just insane. And he's not even in his prime yet.

What is "the level" of EP exactly? And what would keep a guy like Hischier from reaching it? Or Suzuki or Patrick or others?
It is not like Pettersson has been lighting the league on fire. (lighting the Senators up, maybe)

No, they should. Need to healthy, sure, but they are 21-year old 1Cs from the best division in hockey.

EDIT - they are 22 yrs old. Sorry.

I’d bet my whole savings account that Suzuki never reaches the level of EP/Makar. He’s just not that type of player. Could he be a 1C? Yeah. It’s not a knock on Suzuki. EP is just so much more dynamic and more gifted offensively. He’s just not in that class. Same goes with Heischer and Patrick

What is "the level of Pettersson / Makar"?

Point totals? Overall? Is even Petterson at that level?

If its one player to build a team around for next 10+ years...I have no problem taking Hischier over Petterson.
