tough choices for next year

Created by: Jakethesnake97
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 5, 2021
Published: Feb. 5, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Does this make sense ? You'll have to find a way to create cap space for Nick, Romanov and Primeau in 2 years. Mayber Guhle or Harris or Norlinder could replace Chiarot and Kulak. You also have + 1M with Alzner's contract. Give me your thoughts?

IMO Tatar will not get more on the free agency next summer with a flat cap.

Suzuki is the #1 C now, so do not understand why he would drop to #2 next season. By next season KK will be #2C, so you are paying a lot for a 3rd line C that does not give you much offence. Don't get me wrong but I just think Danault is gone next season.

Separate point. Drouin-Suzuki-Anderson is a heck of a line, not sure why you would break them up. And lastly, I do not think Caufield is going to go from college hockey to 2nd line in the NHL. He needs more seasoning.

Agree on Tatar, Habs may even be able to get him on a shorter deal (3?) ... he'll want to stay and as you say, hard to imagine the money will be better out there ... and there will be plenty of other UFA LWs looking for work competing with him for $$$.

Both. I don’t think it’s enough for Mete and Lehkonen, Pittsburgh has an over-abundance of LD and wingers and probably wouldn’t want to give up their cheaper and best defensive forward. Even if he is injury prone.

Defenseman is a more challenging position than forward, primarily because it requires greater attention to defense. Cale Makar was 20, with 2 years' experience in college, when he came out of the NCAA and went straight into the Stanley Cup playoffs. Caufield will have the same resume when he joins the Canadiens next fall. I'm not saying he'll be an All-Star like Makar, either now, soon or ever, but I think that you'll be pleasantly surprised by my fellow Badger. Have a little faith!

Well makar is very abnormal. He truly is a major stud. I cannot believe the numbers he is putting up. If Caufield can do similarly to that, then I say wow and will be pleasantly surprised. Hey I hope he does and I am wrong.

I think Caufield is NHL ready right now. He is pretty much carrying the offense for the entire Badgers team this season. He is being used in all situations and is putting up almost 2 ppg. The kid is really really good and already outplaying the competition at the college level. He needs stiffer competition to grow as a player and Laval does not provide that as the AHL is pretty close to the level of the NCAA.

I'll bet that he outperforms Josh Anderson next season. Enjoy!

At least this is more reasonable than the ppl having Norlinder as a top-4 when he comes over from sweden lol but ya I agree I don't think MTL will want Caufield playing in a bottom 6 position when in the NHL and it wld be hard to imagine him being ready right away out of college for a top 6 role.

Pay Seattle a 2nd or 3rd to take Edmundson over Allen and drop the Lehky\Mete trade

Have you been paying attention to the Badgers season this year?

Here is an updated report card with some video's of his game currently.

While I agree with some of what you are saying the AHL is far far far superior to college hockey. I have had over 100 players go from NCAA to AHL and all of them told me it was a step up. The players were bigger stronger faster.

I've been keeping track yes. Just because he is lighting up the NCAA doesn't mean he is ready for the NHL and won't get bullied around by 25-30 yr old men. But needless to say I'm liking his development against his peer group so far. Only time will tell if his game will translate to the big leagues I guess...

I was not sure if you were following his development LOL. I think he will be fine but that may just be wishful thinking as Caufield is actually the only prospect I have ever followed their development lol.

Well let's keep our fingers crossed, because we've had far too many promising prospects growth get stunted once they join the habs... Maybe times are finally a changin : D

Mete is quickly becoming the most over valued 7th dman in the whole league.

he's played 82 games over 4 years now. his even strength is 12 points his 5v5 is 12. His total is a whopping 15.
Now there is more to playing defense than points. But his advance metrics are pedestrian replacement value. barely 50% corsi, barely 50% FF.
Which explains why he's on the bench.

if you want to keep tatar and danault you have to sacrifice something. Maybe the return isn't enough I was just supposing something.
