Not a Habs fan, but i guess it would depend on whether or not KK is ready to take the 2C spot.

If Danault would be comfortable transitioning to a 3C over the next 2 years, then him. There's way too many variables to ignore them and pick 1 in my opinion.

Danault. Two-way, top-6 centers don't grow on trees. And most of the league are looking to add one.

Short term - Keep Tatar and flip Danault for assets.

Definitely Danault. He’s younger, and a centre, and is more valuable. If Danault left we’d need to go out to find someone to replace him, whereas Tatar (being a winger) could be replaced internally by Caufield.

Keep both - convince Tuna to take a team friendly 5 year deal at like 4.25-5 Mil per with MNTC and convince Danault to take a 2 or 3 year deal in the same range with full NMC. That gets us under the cap and takes Danault to 30 where he can still get a big contract after the covid recovery and cap goes up.
