OTT declines. Those two prospects are worth at least a first combined, so its like a 1st rounder for dumping 12 mil no chance

I’m only starting to watch them this year, apologies if the values are significantly off.

I think there's a good fit between Ottawa and Van regarding cap dumps, but I think this trade is too far on both sides. As much as Ottawa has room to take on cap, it's not worth sacrificing prospects like that. Furthermore, I think Melyuk would have a heart attack if he had to pay this much money to bottom 6 players, he doesn't even like paying start players.

For Van, while getting rid of dead money is a positive step it's not worth sacrificing two firsts to get rid of it all at once. They traded away their 2020 first so going three years in a row without a 1st rounder would destroy their pipeline and they're not competitive enough yet to be in position to do something like that.

It's all good. They have one of the best prospect pools in the league, and those are two of the top10 prospects. Both are draft steals based on when they were selected, and would probably be first round picks in redrafts. Pinto is currently in the NCAA Hobey Baker award voting. If you want to vote, here's the website.

Cole Caufield is the favourite, and will be tough to beat.

Formenton just keeps raising his ceiling. He's incredibly fast, a good 200 foot player, and a PK scoring threat. Here's a link to a top100 prospect list, posted in January.
