Description
Shoutout to MDC - he's had success in the past on Nelson's line and he was incredible last night. Looked like vintage MDC from his junior days - maybe putting your prospects with grinders isn't the best way to find out what you have. MDC will never live up to being a #5 overall pick, but he definitely has what it takes to have a positive impact being the 3rd best player on the 2nd line.

Bailey has been awful - nothing but a liability for the first 10 games. He shouldn't play on Barzal's line.

One of the biggest problems is that Trotz ices a lineup with too many players that can't exit the zone with possession or make a simple tape-to-tape pass. This is why they get hemmed in their own end and eventually give up costly goals. Enough with the slow grinders and role players, this team has plenty of veterans, they can afford to insert youth into the lineup.

not a shot at the fans or anything, just funny how quickly things can change...

Not long ago the fans and team's identity was the Trotz system, not having the same star power but being well coached and grinding out wins, and now it seems to be the problem.

I think it's more of a mainstream narrative, but I'd say a good amount of isles fans who follow the team closely know that trotz lineup decisions have held the team back.

Even last season, it wasn't hard to tell that Trotz lineup decisions were holding the team back. Trotz doesn't know how to adapt to injuries, when a top of the lineup player goes down, he replaces them with grinders and refuses to trust young players.

Yes to all of this.

And when Beau is back bench Bailey for a few games. He has been atrocious this year.

im not a bailey hater but man has he been frustrating to watch this season. It's funny how the vets have been the ones blowing coverage and committing awful turnovers this season (mayfield, Komarov, Bailey, clutter, Martin etc..) and then at the end of games trotz shortens the bench and those guys are rewarded with more ice time while dobson/wahlstrom bellows stay on the bench.

It was working then. The 4th line was excellent and guys like Bailey and Nelson were playing better than ever. Even in the first 9 games this year, something was very obviously off and they just seemed to be trying to fit a square peg in a round hole over and over when what they had might've been gone. I think, for me at least, that that's where most of the frustration is coming from.

And a lot of fans I know still love the 4th line, Komarov and will defend next to everything Trotz and LL do, so really it's mostly just us on CF complaining honestly lol

I think the loyalty trotz shows to fringe players is a huge problem. It’s almost as if he’d rather lose with the guys he likes than win with younger, more skilled players

I don't mind rotating Bellows and Wahlstrom every other, I can understand why Trotz is wary on having both young players in the lineup at one time. Komarov and Johnston should never be in the lineup when we have players like MDC and Cznarik. I just don't understand why can't Trotz give Bellows or Wahlstom a shot on the powerplay which we so desperately need. I also don't like Greene having a regular spot. He looks old and slow rather rotate him in and out with Hickey or Aho once every few games. I feel Sorokin will get more starts later in the year especially if the Isles are not in the playoff race by the Trade deadline.
My line up after the Trade Deadline:
Lee-Barzal-Eberle
Beauviller-Nelson-Wahlstrom
MDC-Pagaeu-Bailey
Martin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck
Extra:Bellows Czarnik

Pelech-Pulock
Leddy-Dobson
Greene-Mayfield
Extra: Aho

Varlamov
Sorokin

I wouldn't call bellows young, he's in his D+5 season and hes shown that he can play within the system. Bellows-pageau-wahlstrom was by far our best line against WSH, no reason to break it up. They can run a PP through either bellows or wahlstrom, it makes no sense to keep them off the PP.

I would switch lee and beau. I think Nelson plays better when he has one of lee/ebs on his line because they are both great possession players.

Greene sucks. I'd take hickey at this point if they don't want to give Aho a shot. At least they can move the puck and exit the zone with possession
