Description

Dadonov is off to a slow start, or just not jamming with Ottawa line mates but he is a legit top line winger with 25+ goals per season 3 years running. At $3.5M (OTT retains $1.5) that's pretty great. Tierney is a legit 3rd line pivot who can bump up to 2nd line when needed and is a talented PK who lead the league in shorties last season. Ottawa's 2021 1st will for sure be top 5 if not top 3, and the three 2nds (including SJS's 2021) will for sure bring in some talent.

For Ottawa the upside is obvious. Getting the brothers together in their prime means we're more likely to keep them both for the future and it doesn't hurt our rebuild at all since we clear $15M in cap with just Stepan, Anisimov and Gudbranson heading out at TD or this summer. We'll have money to spend and still have loads of potential in the system with JBD, Sanderson, Pinto, Formenton, Greig, Kleven, Sokolov, Thomson, Jarventie...

So, it's not a bad offer. But the Flames would ask for so much if they are dealing MT.

2 unprotected 1st's would probably need to be in the package.

There are like 5 players that can do what he does, as effectively as him. The demand for him would be crazy if he became available.

I think if they ever play together, it will be as UFA's.

Brady isn't going to Calgary and Matthew isn't going to Ottawa.

They'd probably want a ridiculous off like Chabot+Sogaard+2 first rounders or something like that, that's way too much to lose for MT

Fair enough. I originally had Batherson + Wolanin instead of Dadonov (while still including Tierney, the 1st and two 2nds) and while that is closer it's probably still not enough. I think once the offer is actually acceptable to Flames fans it becomes unacceptable to Sens fans... which is always the way with UNTOUCHABLE players.

You'd never win a Tkachuk trade anyway, but I'm not sure a potential 1st overall selection constitutes a horrific offer. All the 2nd's you receive as well give you so much ammunition to climb up the board, if desired.

I said, they would ask for more, but when you get a 1st round pick from a rebuilding team, it's not horrific.

Yep. Between Power, Brannstrom, Sanderson and Kleven I'd feel pretty confident about our left side. And UND has been playing Sanderson on the right side WITH Kleven the last few games so ...maybe?
Either way, there'd be some growing pains on D if Chabot left, but to get the Tkachuk brothers together... yeah, I'd make that deal.
