Description
Montreal protects the best out of Chiarot and Edmundson and Seattle picks the other. Since Edmundson is doing better he gets protected.
Byron and Lehkonen battle for 3LW
Since Mete wants a trade and we don’t desperately need him he gets traded
Line 1,2,3 are all interchangeable
Lehkonen is with Danault and Gallagher since I wanted to keep Toffoli and Kk together and because I didn’t want Caufield to play with 2 players on the younger side

Mete likely won't resign to be a depth option. His rights are most likely traded in the offseason.

I really like your 1st line. Although I understood what you said about Lehkonen, you are weakening that line. Danault was a first line C for 3 years and the most he ever got was 13 goals. By taking an offensive player in Tuna off his line and putting a defensive minded player in Lehky, you are lowering that offensive threat of that line. Your 3rd line is lethal. Can Caufield step in right away out of college? time will tell. Some have done it but most needed a year or two. Your 4th line is interesting. Poehling as a LW, we have not seen him play all season. Maybe he is much better at C. Maybe move Evans up to 3rd C and put Poehling on 4th to start next season and see how he does.

On D, your scenario has Chiarot gone. I like the fact you kept Edmundson and Petry together as most on here keep lowering Edmundson when he has done so well with Petry. Can Romanov handle top 4 minutes? he started season well, but last few games has run around a little. Is he ready. I like you kept Kulak as your 5th d-man as I do not find him to be a top 4 D. yes he can skate but not much else. Fleury as your 6 D is a good choice.

Mete is already rumored to want out of Montreal cause he doesn't get enough playing time. How do you think he will feel next year with Brook, Fleury, Guhle, Struble and Harris all pushing up the depth chart?

Mete is gone by the draft (at the latest).

What do you think we could get for him right now? (Taxi squad D + how high a draft pick?)

Not a 2nd. Possibly NYR for a late pick. Hard to get much for a 3rd line dman that needs to be protected....

I’m with you on that. And I think Bergevin keeps him all year vs. having an extra pick (that we don’t need when we already have 14). We can deal him at the draft for a 2022 draft pick worst case scenario, and he’s serviceable depth in the meantime if someone gets hurt.

We know Danault declined a 5 or 6 year deal at around 5.25 so if we want to keep him we will need to pay him around 5.5+.

Mete has value since he has potential maybe not a 2nd but at least a 3rd or 4th

Would Byron be better than Lehkonen if not then Toffoli could maybe go up to the 2nd line and we run Lehkonen/Byron with Kk and Caufield. if Caufield isn’t ready maybe we resign Armia for 1-2 years at around 3mil. Romanov will most likely be able to handle top 4 minutes and I placed him with Weber since Weber seems to be slowly declining and he’d certainly be a good influence for Romanov

The offer that Danault’s agents likely leaked was from September (I.e. when the team still had money available to spend). That was prior to the team signing Toffoli, Anderson (long term) and then Gallagher being smart enough to tell his agent to race back to Bergevin and accept Bergevin’s last offer.

Danault’s agents played a game of chicken and they lost. The best offer from the Habs will now likely be lower than the September offer. The fact that Danault has zero goals so far this year really isn’t helping his cause much, either.

Any way you slice it, whatever the offers were that were made back in September are irrelevant now. Bergevin didn’t know that players like Toffoli would be willing to sign here for $4.25mm back in September. For that matter, neither did Danault’s agents. Their error in judgement cost their player money. If I were Danault, I’d fire my agents and save the commission.
