So instead of losing 6-5 games, they'll lose 7-6 games?

I think its last thing VAN needs.

Read Eliott Friedman's latest 31 thoughts. He was pretty clear that NYR are willing to retain as much as it takes.

You have to retain or take back a bad contract. If teams wanted him at full salary they would have claimed him off waivers.
Personally I don't think he'll be able to be moved and the Rangers will take the cheap buy out.

This won't be happening.

Vancouver is currently having locker room issues.

You don't take perhaps the worst locker room guy in the league when you are already struggling in the room.

So the one from 3 days ago says it wouldn't bet more than the buy out cost. And I couldn't find anything on ADA in the podcast from 3hrs ago.

3. The Rangers have made it clear they will eat salary to facilitate a Tony DeAngelo trade. GM Jeff Gorton provided clarity on why DeAngelo was cut: The organization felt DeAngelo “wasn’t able to move on” from his early-season benching and warned him one more incident would be the end of his tenure. That came Saturday night, after the 5–4 overtime loss to Pittsburgh. DeAngelo delivered a sarcastic, cutting comment to Alexandar Georgiev in the aftermath of that defeat. The goalie clocked DeAngelo before the two were separated, and the decision to put him on waivers was made that night.

New York will try to trade him, but it’s not going to be easy. Any acquiring team knows there will be heat. Gorton indicated the Rangers currently are not pursuing a termination of DeAngelo’s contract, and it appears unlikely they’d be able to do it unless the player agreed, for whatever reason. Since he does not turn 26 until October, he can be bought out for one-third of the $5.3-million salary on his contract for 2021–22.

Why would rangers retain that much? Isn’t the buyout cost next to nothing?

Not retaining that much or including Gauthier when summer buyout is 1/3 of his deal. Can take back a bad ufa contract and not sweetening with any picks

Any team trading for DeAngelo with the intention of actually playing him deserves all the terrible things that come their way. The ONLY way a team should trade for him, is if it's for asset accrual, with the intention of telling him to stay home for the remainder of his contract. He is an absolute dog**** human being and locker room cancer and no team will ever win anything with him on it.
