No way Islanders doing this. What are their upsides? Loosing 5m in a cap flat era for a 4 liner/3rd pairing guys and a pick. Nah they're already in trouble with cap space

call me crazy but my gut is telling me, Evans jumps into that 3rd C spot. This is my reasoning. It is or it should be clear by now that Suzuki is your #1 C, by next season KK should be your #2. As of right now there is only 3% difference in face offs between Evans and Danault. Danault was 1st line C for 3 seasons and the most he got you was 13 goals. So I believe Evans can get you 13 goals as well, yet he will cost you millions per season less than Danault will.

Then I spent a week doing research on Evans, his seasons in Laval, his 4 years at Notre Dame, his time in the OJHL and every single coach he had raved about him and said he only gets better. So, my conclusion is Danault gets moved for draft picks in 2022, Evans moves up to #3 and either Poehling or another cheaper salary jumps in at #4.

I agree with this. Evans makes a perfect young 3C next season. My initial thought was Poehling at 4C but then I got to thinking Hillis could be more ready to make the jump to the NHL do we give him a 10 game look then see where he stands or do we send him to Laval and run Vejdemo\Poehling? Imagine if Hillis is able to put up even half the points in the NHL that he put up in the OHL last season! Another option later in the year could be Teasdale, if he is capable of staying healthy and playing at his usual level he would be another nice 3rd or 4th C. I think we have enough options internally to fill the void the trading Danault will cause than if we let Tuna walk in FA and that is without considering Olofsson, Weal or Ikonen. My gut says give Hillis the reins and see how he does as the 4C for ten days then make adjustments if needed,

The problem with Hillis is two fold. One he has not played a single game this year. Two, taking numbers from Junior often do not translate to the NHL, case in point, two players I scouted and later worked with. Luke Gazdic, had 19 and 20 goals in Junior but I knew he would only have a cup of coffee at NHL level and he would be used only as a fighter. The other I have to go a little further back to Ramzi Abid. When Bob Mongrain who was the head coach of the Halifax Mooseheads acquired Ramzi, he asked me to work with him. He was averaging over 2 points per game, but he was so hard to keep focused. I asked him why do you feel the need to fight all the time or get upset? he said, I am an immigrant and people make fun of that and insult my mother. I have to defend that. I told him two dozen times, don't you think the coach on the other side knows that and purposefully sends players in the corners to say that to you? he had a hard time controlling his emotions. He scored 57 goals but never really had a career in the NHL. This is why I am a huge believer in the AHL. unless super gifted. For example both Mete and KK should have spent time in the AHL but MTL had gapping holes that needed to be filled.

I agree with this and because the thread was made for the 21-22 season had assumed that Hillis would have played a year in Laval prior to getting his 10 game trial next season. In fact I was referring to all of the possible 4C options as next season options as I prefer to keep Danault for our playoff run this season.

yes I knew that. I was also speaking of next season. Hillis and the others you mentioned will be worth the follow in Laval. But all good coaches say the same thing, the players will show us who is ready and who is not.

I am confused as to why you are arguing then. I said he was a possible option for the Habs at 4C next season and maybe he should be given a 10 game look then make the decision on what to do regarding the 4C after that and you replied he should go to the AHL first. Then when I pointed out that the thread was for next season you contradicted yourself by saying "yes I knew that. I was also speaking of next season. Hillis and the others you mentioned will be worth the follow in Laval. But all good coaches say the same thing, the players will show us who is ready and who is not." neither of the 2 guys you referenced were considered to have more than a 20% chance at making the NHL.

Maybe it was a lack of communication on my part. I was also on the phone at the time. I knew your post was for the following season. I was not aware Hillis was already with Laval, only after my first post did I go look up the roster of Laval for this season and saw his name. No argument! it's all good!
