This is a really really rough trade, and I just think it might come from either not knowing who White and/or Tierney are, or maybe not realizing who Matheson is. I see there are 7 players on the taxi squad and the limit is 6, so I'm just not sure if there's an unfamiliarity aspect here.

There have been a lot of White for Pettersson trades around here. It doesn't make a lot of sense for Ottawa and really only had legs because Ottawa fans were unfairly unhappy with White because every fanbase needs a whipping boy and they had chosen him after his struggles last year. But this one is completely different because instead you're using Matheson, who's got one of the worst deals in the league, and two replacement level players, and trying to get back Ottawa's best center right now in White and a solid bottom 6 option in Tierney? With only two 2nds going back? Not likely. The Matheson deal in itself would carry a significant sweetener just to take, let alone getting back two valuable assets in return. Ottawa would say no here and it's not even close.

Mike Matheson is a huge cap dump. This isn't close to good for Ottawa.

white for MP is an OTT fan phantasy that is never going to happen.
That White contract is every bit as bad as the Matheson contract. Matter of fact, I'd say it's worse so far given the 3 games Matheson has had as a penguin.
So lets just step back into reality here on this trade.
And reality is those two are basically a swap of what are considered bad contracts. Which is really a true understanding of "who White is."
Which leads us to the question of is Tierney worth 2 2nd round picks. And the answer to that is no, he's not.

Ottawa doesn’t want Matheson or Pettersson. They are fine with the White contract, and the offers here were only because of how bad Reilly, Coburn, and Josh Brown were. That’s past now with Zub and Brannstrom or Wolanin playing. There’s also no need to trade Tierney right now either.

Ottawa wasn’t expected to win, they just didn’t want to lose so bad. Now the games are closer, and as far as I know, only Reilly, Coburn, or Josh Brown are likely to be traded, maybe Stepan.

that really isn't the point. It's more the value of the trade. aka the massive over valuation of white.

Whites fine, he just can’t win faceoffs at a high enough %. He’s played more with a left shot centre to take his weak side draws, and suddenly the criticisms stop, in Ottawa, but it takes longer for the rest of the leagues fans to catch up to that.

production vs contract sucks. That's all it balances out to. You over value a guy compared to another because he's from OTT. That contract has been dead weight for OTT.

Tell that to the Pens fans who keep offering Matheson for White.

White's contract is for a little too much, Matheson's contract is for a lot too much, and a lot too long, there's a difference here.

White's contract is just as long, and his value is honestly less than Matheson's. Hell defense is always a need, look at Jack Johnson over there in a rangers sweater now.
But forwards.....good luck moving that. They are a dime a dozen.

You can keep telling yourself the white contract is somehow better because he plays for OTT, here is some objective facts. It's not. It's a bad contract, just as bad.
Hell people moved Gudbranson for 3 years like it was freaking nothing. Didn't even have to take bad contracts back.
Believe me, Matheson is a better player than Guddy was.
So of those two bad contracts, he's the best of the two.

Wrong!

Your rhetoric is pathetic.

White's contract might run one season less, but Matheson will be 32 at the end of his contract, and White will be 28, that's a huge difference in term. White will come much closer to his salary of $4.75MM starting next season, than Matheson will come to his $5, $4, and then three seasons of $6.75MM, at age 29-32, that's ridiculous. Ottawa can't afford that much salary for the way Matheson plays. Also, White is likely to be traded in 23/24, to a team with deeper pockets, and the team will deal with the value at that point.

Comparing Matheson's $32MM owed to Gudbranson's $4MM owed, is another ridiculous comparison.

1st of all A. 32 isn't old for a defenseman. So to think Matheson's age is the issue here is ludacris.
B. saying White will be traded is no different than saying Matheson will be traded, which at this point in time is much more likely given the play of both, because,
C. we aren't talking about Guddy's 4 million. Guddy went with 3 years on that contract. From VAN > PIT>ANA>OTT.
which if anything goes to show the movability of a defense man, even one people view as a "bad" contract. Which is the point I was making. That not only was he moved, but without bad cap coming back.
3x4 ain't really much worse than 5x4.
So it's not like defensemen are unmovable. Now you won't see Bad winger contracts move like that.
Meanwhile, good luck finding comparable wingrers who are like 10 goal 20 point guys on 4.75 million contracts that are moved that easily.

Is 32 the same as 28? What rhetoric will you use to say they are?

does it matter his last year is at 32?
No it doesn't.
You are right this is a waste of time. You can't name me one winger with a bad contract like that moved like bad defense man are. Because there are none.
So yearh,
goodbye.
