He's a fantastic young player. Doubt this is more than a sophomore slump.

Very up and down career. Life of a career back up. Maybe this is the year he becomes a starter. Some goalies don't get good until their 30s. Ie Tim Thomas. Far and few between though.

Flames won't give that much up even if they were looking to acquire Fleury. Maybe just the 3rd. More importantly, the Pens would need to acquire a goalie (probably Elliott) in return in order to protect Murray because they need to have one "exposed" goalie and Jarry is not eligible.

He's only 21 - waaaay to early to call that a career year. Check back when he's 25.

As a goalie myself I can provide some of my own insight. Of course opinions are my own: Tim Thomas was the exception of exceptions - he would not have been able to play in the NHL that way for 15 years.. What separates the great goalies from good goalies from bad goalies is once the shooters get a book on you, the great ones adjust their game to equal the shooters. This is why we see so many flash in the pan goalies. They come in & get hot because shooters don't see them much; then, they start to figure them out - their tendencies, style, etc. and the goalies have to adjust.

I think Johnson is underrated, but he has never played 50 games so it's impossible to know if he'll keep it up. I think what this means for Calgary is they don't need to rush to trade for Fleury. If Johnson keeps playing well, they can keep waiting closer to March 1. But if he starts to stumble, then they could pull the trigger. I wouldn't go into the playoffs with Johnson & Elliott tbh. I know Elliott played well last year, but his problem is that he plays better in a structured system...not freewheeling one. It's like when Miller was traded to St. Louis - he struggled in their system but thrived in Buffalo's. He's played pretty well in Vancouver because our system is more similar to Buffalo's and he's a goalie that feeds off rhythm.

I still think Fleury would be a good get for Calgary. He would fit their system and his struggles I think are more due to his place on the club being supplanted. His pride and confidence are down in Pittsburgh. Give him a chance at another starting job and I think it will improve. Plus, CGY has him for 2 seasons, which is nice because when he hits my proclaimed "danger zone" (which is 34 + up) they can make a decision on him without being locked in.

      Fair enough makes perfect sense.
