Deadline Push

Created by: Flamed
Team: 2016-17 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 10, 2016
Published: Dec. 10, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Detroit gets a key rental in Bouma, who is widely known for his excellent gritty defensive play.. He also blocks a ton of shots, which is another plus.. Bouma does not fit in with Calgary's plans as long as Versteeg remains healthy...

NJD get much needed offensive firepower in Denis Wideman... He can slot into the 1st or 2nd PP right away.. Widemans not as good in his own zone, therefore needs to be sheltered.. NJD are just above the cap floor so they can take Widemans cap hit (Which comes of this books this summer anyways)

Ottawa needs a physical defensive defenseman and will get just that in Engelland..

CGY needs a top RW and get that in Simmonds, they also take Matt Reads bad contract (He's out for the next 4 weeks anyways).. In return the Flames give Elliot (A star goalie behind a defensive system, which the Flyers have), Hathaway; who is an energy guy that can kill penalties and provide a spark, Chaisson; another guy that can slot in on the PK, however he can create offence as well and is a big body, and the 2nd and 5th round picks in 2017.

CGY sends Linden Vey to MTL as they need a cheap, and reliable centremen asap.. They get a two way player in Vey.

Simmonds deal is not happening. Otherwise, all the other trades a good, but maybe one less pick for Vey, Wideman & Bouma. Also, Wideman should get you between a 2nd-4th rounder

Philly laughs in your face. Philly fans are gonna light you up for even suggesting that flaming pile for Simmonds. You might get read for that just cause Elliott and chaisson is smelly garbage. The rest aren't bad.

Philadelphia Flyers > laugh > Calgary Flames

Am I wrong. Philly fans throw huge fruit at their own team buses, can't wait to see what a flyers fan says about this.

I don't know the Philly fanbase...but that is funny. I've always heard they are one tough crowd.

No, he just knows what he's talking about. You could make a pretty strong case for Simmonds being even more valuable to the Flyers than Giroux, so there's no way that a struggling goalie and a bunch of other useless things are going to fetch him. And THEN you think Philly will throw in Matt Read too.

And you say Elliot is "a star goalie behind a defensive system, which the Flyers have". For starters, Elliot is no star. He had a good year last year, but if he was a star he wouldn't have lost his job to a career backup. And what defensive system do the Flyers have? They have literally the worst team defense I've seen in my life.

One year the Eagles were off to an 0 and 4 or something start and the fans threw whole water melons at the team bus. Even nhl players have commented how uncomfortable they've been playing their first games in Philly. Fans are crazy and there is something in the air lol.
One thing I hate about cap friendly is how uneducated some of the fans are. It's like they read a news paper or listen to Eklund and figure they know more than every one else. Must be a Flames fan.

Me a Flames fan? Oh no...I bleed the blue & green of Canada's west coast. Ya, I'm trying to be more careful not to post every idea I get...because I like to push the boundaries on trades...but then worry I come off uneducated, so I'm trying to keep them more simple now. I wish Canuck fans had more Philly passion - not to the extreme they do. But I want Rogers Arena to feel like an intimidating place to play...Canucks game are too much about the children. It only gets real crazy come playoffs.

I wasn't suggesting you. Sorry lol. I empathize with canucks fans. Because of management and do cheer for them sometimes. Sucks Benning and the owners won't do the right thing and rebuild. You guys have some nice pieces coming along. Love tramkin, boeser, joulevi wish they had the right mentor for virtanen. I think he needs a experienced power forward to help bring him along.
Go on YouTube and see what happened on ED Snyder night. Philly fans are Unbelievable. Im sure the flyers reporter is missing after calling the flyers fans classless lol.

I miss play offs lol. I got to witness 5 cups in my life time. I'm really fortunate. No team stays in the basement for ever. I think the hockey gods ar balancing things out because of the historic teams we've had. I can deal with extended bad for extended good. I can feel it coming. Draisaitl and mcd remind me so much of gretzky and messier. McDavid with his awareness, ability to make something from nothing and the way he uses the puck to push plays forward. Hes even starting to skate back into the neutral zone. Wish he could use the back of the net the same way. Different Era though back of the net play is harder. Draisaitl doesn't do the real dirty stuff like Mess did . To bad that Era is gone. Guys like kadri , Cooke etc. Would be leaving g the ice on a stretcher nightly

Then how come before this season, Elliot leads all NHL goalies with SV % SO and GAA? (Last 3 seasons of stats).. Philly does have a good defensive system, you must be out of your mind if you think they dont

At least I offered a first round 4the overall not underwear left overs. Lol god I love the boards. If I was bored I would sit around inflating my star rating reading every old post and team written by every member. Things must be slow and broke in other places....or schools out. Boards bring out the most pith hockey fans. Thanks for ratting lol.
Reconfirms my thoughts.

As a Flames fan, there is no way that the Philly trade happens. I love Simmonds, he would add so much to our team. But he plays too critical of a role for the Flyers. He is arguably their best player this season, and because of him, they are in the playoff hunt. Plus he is doing it at a pretty good cap hit. So there's no way that they are trading Simmonds unless you're offering Gaudreau plus. Am I saying that Simmonds is as good as Gaudreau? No. But that's what it will take to pry Simmonds out of town.

I like where you are coming from trying to give them a goalie, because I can't see Philly making a cup run with their current goaltending situation. But, at the same time, I don't see Philly making a much longer run with Elliott in net. Even if he gets them one round further, he does not replace/better the production that they are getting from Simmonds. Look at it this way. Would you trade T.J. Brodie to Toronto for Frederik Anderson? Sure Frederik Anderson probably gets us further than Johnson, but does he replace the value that Brodie brings? Not even close. So why would Philly try to replace Simmonds with Elliott?

Well fortunately for you, the Oilers are back on the upswing. I think so too...finally the Canadian teams are going to be good again. If 5 or 6 make the playoffs, then it makes it pretty hard for Bettman to rig the system. I watched McDavid when he came to town and he is something special (duh). I was blown away.

Vancouver's problem is that the market is so fickle many believe we won't accept a full rebuild. Edmonton, Toronto, Calgary - they all sell out regardless. Vancouver? Not so much, it's about winning - part of that is the demographics, the money in the city, and the general nature of Vancouverites. It's disappointing because being swept in the first round is worse than missing the playoffs when you're a team like us in my opinion.

Well the NHL has strangled the players' ability to police themselves with stupid rules the instigator penalty. But with what we know about concussions and post-hockey injuries, it's never going back. The game can't grow today if there is too much buffoonery, but the league has to do a better job of protecting the stars if they won't let the players do it themselves. Respect is gone from the game and that's a big issue.

I'll have to check that flyers clip out.

Brodie to Toronto for Frederik Anderson? Sure Frederik Anderson probably gets us further than Johnson, but does he replace the value that Brodie brings? Not even close. So why would Philly try to replace Simmonds with Elliott?

I understand what your saying.. However i'm not trying to replace simmonds with Elliot.. Elliot is just a sweetner to the deal.. I'm replacing Simmonds with Chaisson and Hathaway (Which I know isn't fair, but i'm also throwing in two draft picks, and taking a bad contract)
