From the Avalanche perspective: sure. Bennett is the better player and he could bring a lot to the Avalanche.

My only concern is the contract situation and the Avalanche could have some cap troubles because of Bennett’s contract

I'm still semi-confused about the return on a Bennett to Colorado trade.

I'd think that, if Calgary was moving Bennett, they'd want something back that wasn't expansion draft eligible (ie. Pick or prospect). I suppose it just depends on if they can keep up with Edmonton/Winnipeg and stay in the playoff race though.

Disagree. Jost is younger, cheaper, and at the very least arguably better. He has been our best defensive forward and pk guy this year. I wouldn't move him for Bennett.

I dont think Bennet is a better player, they are simliar bottom 6 level players but each have strengths and weaknesses to them.
Bennett is suppose to be more offensive but beyond what looks like an outlier rookie season, hes been a mid 20 point guy his career. That is the same production as Jost, 22, 26, 23 pt seasons. Jost is leaps and bounds better defensively and plays special teams but Bennett is physical and only can play 5v5. Its a lateral move at best. Is Bennet 4times the cap hit player than Jost? I would say no.

I don't think it's clear that Bennett is the better player and he costs a lot more and is two years older. Jost is finally finding his role and his game and has been really good so far this season. I don't think he's the guy you want to trade.

I like this trade, a high pick underachiever for a high pick underachiever, both left shot forwards

Seriously a DNVR article about Bennet comes out and viola, a ton of Bennet trades. He isn’t better than Jost, he gets paid more than Jost, but they are both bottom 6 guys. One guy has worn off his draft bust label the other hasn’t it doesn’t mean he is better.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to force a trade for Bennett right now. I'd rather wait until the playoff picture clears up a bit and find someone better for the bottom six. Haula, Cizikas, maybe Stastny or Lowry become available. I just don't see a reason to trade for Bennett right now because he's not going to make this team that much better.

If calvert it shut down for the season, then I think you make a bennett trade, until then stay the course and avoid making that move for the same of it....anyone who thinks bennett will be a 3C or an impact 3rd line winger is going to be sadly mistaken.

Nashvillle IMO is the team to look at for rentals. One nashville fan thinks Järnkrok is available, 2m aav and 1 more year on his contract. If they make a move that is the kind of guy to target. Fits the Avs and bednars identity. 3C...Lowry would be ideal but I dont think the Jets will sell, they will be in a dog fight till the end

I like the physicality, which is missing from Calvert's injury and Jost can't do. Good showing in playoffs. Basically Calvert replacement

I put Calvert on IR but added back Toews and Frankie. Cap is fine

Ahh physicality, forget that decreasing xgrel and cfrel and scoring decreases the last 3 years or that he makes almost 3 times as much money as Jost. Sorry he is definitely not my cup of tea for the Avs.

and who is going to replace Calvert + Jost on the PK? Benett cant PK and now Avs dont have their 2 best PKers in in scenerio and will have to lean heavily on 2 fwds in Bellemare and Compher to PK who are not very good at it. 1 step forward 2 steps back in this trade of yours

Jost doesn't get enough credit for being a bit of a pest. He led the team in penalties drawn last year and is on a similar, although not quite as torrent, pace this year. He's not physical per se, but is that really what matters in this day and age?

A lot of good points being made in this conversation/thread. I agree with those saying that they'd decline this trade. Jost is a lot cheaper, is defensively reliable, draws penalties more than anyone in the league per 60 minutes (or at least near the top in that metric), and is a good PKer. His lack of scoring likely means that he'll continue to be cheap going forwards as well.

That said I would love to add Bennett to this team. It would simply have to be a deal around Compher though, possibly with additional lesser pieces to make money work (eg. Derek Ryan, Pateryn, Bellemare, etc).

I think of it this way: trade away a guy who draws penalties for a more "physical" player (which often translates to more penalties taken), doesn't add any scoring and doesn't kill penalties. How does this make the Avs better?

I think I was maybe ambiguous in my response, I like Jost just fine, I dislike Bennett, immensely. I think Jost gets unfairly railed here and other places when all he does is exactly what the team asks, doesn’t ****, and is a great kid.
