Rebuild

Created by: hockeycanada1982
Team: 2021-22 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 11, 2021
Published: Feb. 11, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trying to see how a Sabres slight rebuild could go down while still retaining Reinhart, Eichel and Dahlin. Team is in a rough spot with not too many assets available to obtain true star power and a weak 2021 draft leaves their first rounder with low value.
*Note* This is in the case that Sabres are out of the playoff picture by the deadline. If they are in the playoffs, I can't see most of these trades happening with their cap situation.

This doesnt make them better in the long run or in the short term. Would rather eat the salary with Skinner and have a functioning player that costs too much than a plug that just eats away at the salary. This puts the team in purgatory. there is so much salary on this team of washed up players so the team cant improve in the offseason. You collected a handful of mid round picks that the Sabres have been historically awful at. So why

All these trades are rough for Buffalo. Selling low on pretty much everything. The team got way worse.

Skinner is overpaid, but still has a positive impact on the ice. Vlasic is just a complete negative to his team.

- It would be pretty silly to trade Hall for Bean + 1st and lose him in the expansion draft.

- It makes no sense to trade Skinner for Vlasic, just put him with Eichel when Hall leaves.

- Why are we trade Mittelstadt + 3rd for Hartman? Trade him for a similar prospect or give it a chance to show off in Buffalo.

- Staal will cost more

Just being hopeful.... you gotta think they accidentally stumble on a late round steal eventually.... I did the Vlasic trade for a fresh start for both players. Also think Vlasic may not play the full length of that contract giving the Sabres more cap space sooner. I also agree it doesn't make them better long or short term however they aren't in any spot to make any moves as of right now to help them in the present without trading high-quality assets which have been scarce for the Sabres for a while and don't want an O'Rielly repeat with Eichel/Dahlin/Reinhart

McCabe is one of their best Dmen - he needs to be resigned
The Sabres are pretty deep in D prospects and the Sabres are interested in retaining Hall
Vegas is not dumping Fleury that is a long long dead rumor and Fleury has been dominant
Skinner for Vlasic is horrendous and the Sabres retain for nothing in return?
You're getting nothing for Staal
