I was on this site for the last year imploring DW to go after Toffoli in this past offseason... SJ has no depth at RW... Toffoli's a great player... price was low (he was speculated to receive minimum 5.5mil)... was unsigned a few days into free agency....

SHAME ON YOU DW FOR NOT DOING YOUR JOB ESPECIALLY WHEN THE IT'S STARING RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!!!!

I don't think we had the money for him and why would he go to a bitter rival.

Nah the money wasn't an issue: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1987506

He'd probably like the idea of being back in California where he spent most of his career in LA.

hi CheechYou, the biggest mistake of DG recently was the signing of Karlsson long term for $ 11M +
without moving this contract SJ won't be able to bring real assets and depth players
the only hope in this situation is good drafting

Oh for sure. I'm a huge fan of EK65, always have been and even still am a big fan of his. But 11.5mil for the max term is just ludicrous -- DW needed to walk away if that was his final asking price. I get that he didn't feel like resigning a guy like Pavelski wasn't ideal since it's still keeping the team pretty old (even tho Pavs was lights out for DAL last year), but there were plenty of other options. 9mil, MAYBE 10mil a year would've been my final # for him, even though he's worth ~7.5mil I'd say.
