leafs say no to both. The trade off of older and sooner to UFA for Hertl isnt worth it and Paul is not worth two 2nds, not by far

I really like Hertl but as others have mentioned the extra two years on Nylander's contract makes this a hard no. Unfortunately there's not much the Sharks could add that would even it up. I doubt they would be willing to part with this year's 1st round pick.

that's probably market rate for him, but i still dont do it unless he's doing what he did the first 10 games all season, and he's already starting to come back to earth a bit

Yeah, two seconds isn't cheap...but the player has another year on his deal and if they put him to market the bidding could get high. It sure firms up our forward group.

Hertl is the better player, Nylander has more term and is younger.

What does SJ need?

Hertl is the better player. We could possibly re-sign him.

These are late 2nd round picks, there's a huge drop off in the draft from the beginning of round two and the end of round two.

Yeah maybe but then at what cost? The Leafs can't make a trade like this without a contract for Hertl in place (which rules out a deal this year), and the only contract Hertl is signing is going to be around market value.

I took the fact that they were late into consideration regarding my opinion.

Where is there a spot for Paul in the lineup especially when Thornton, Simmons and Robertson will be returning from LTIR?
The current addition of Hertl, I doubt is better than Nylander.

Leafs have been defunding gold there. Personally I think Paul is worth a 3rd. I would do the 2nd since it would be later.

Questionable if Hertl is the better player. Of course the Leafs COULD resign him. But in two summer from now, 31 teams could. It's a silly premise to make a trade hoping to resign a UFA.

I wouldn’t say that at all. Comparable maybe but I give the edge to Nylander. Younger with more term as well.

Interesting SJ trade. Certainly intriguing but this would absolutely obliterate our center depth. So I'm not sure it's a fit.

Good luck finding a team that's both picking in the top 10 and looking to load up in the short-term. That's more of Sharks/Sens kind of move, so it's probably not happening lol.

A Mark Stone return is more likely. Other than that Doug wont be ripped off

Ottawa lucked out with the karlsson and stone trades. Vegas had some great assets being a recent expansion and a SJ turning into a lotto team.
