I don’t think the Pens give up on Jarry. He’s on a good contract for 3 more years, and still young.

He hasn’t been great, but the defense in front of him has been awful too. It’s not all his fault if u watch the games. He can only do so much.

Pens don’t have the space to sign Hamilton to that amount either. It’s pointless.

Dude the Pens have about $2.2 million to sign 7 players, there's noway in hell Pittsburgh can pay Hamilton that much. canes have far more cap space then Pittsburgh.

i don't mind the trade, but I definitely mind paying Dougie that much, most I'd go is 8-8.5

I was giving an idea to retool the core around a franchise defenseman while Crosby and Malkin still have some juice, instead of a "tear it all down" approach.

Lol..that’s funny. Pens don’t have the cap space to resign Hamilton. It’s pointless.

Marino is pretty untouchable. He was just signed long term.

And Rust was a Point Per game player last year. And has 10 points in 12 games this year. Rust’s value has never been higher. And he’s on a good contract too.

Taking away Marino, Rust or Zucker for Hamilton would do way more Damage to the team now and in the future.

My personal thought was a defense the looked like this for Pittsburgh for the next couple of years, with Letang eventually dealt in a separate transaction:

POJ-Hamilton
Dumoulin-Marino
Matheson-Riikola

To me, that's a very good top-4, instead of the weird tire-fire mish-mash that currently exists.

Or

Dumoulin,Pettersson/Letang
PO-Joseph/Marino
Matheson/Maniscalco
Riikola/Ruhwedel

Trade either Pettersson(24 years old) or Dumoulin(29 years old).

No need to trade away Zucker or Rust for a top D-man.

Taking away Marino, Rust or Zucker for Hamilton would do way more Damage to the team now and in the future.

And then having to resign Hamilton too, with cap space the Pens don’t have.

Dumoulin/Letang have been a top pairing for the past 5-6 years. Both play-off tested and SC winners.

Pettersson is a top 4 LHD, 24 years old, signed to a good, reasonable, long-term deal, plays 20 plus minutes a night, still more potential there.

PO-Joseph/Marino are two good young D-Men

Matheson/Ceci,Ruhwedel .. is the only weird pairing and Ceci’s contract is over this year and Maniscalco is one of the Pens top prospects and close to NHL ready.

Riikola is hurt but is one of the best 7th D-men inthe NHL. Plays both LHD, and RHD. Has great analytics and underlying numbers.

What weird mix match tire fire are u talking about?? B/c we got killed by injuries so far this year??

Ummm...duh. They're RFAs...Hamilton's a UFA. The price drastically changes, especially since both Makar and Hughes will likely get bridge deals.

Hahaha sure. I was politely saying you’re insane for thinking he’s worth that but it clearly is way over your head

Well no, I don't think that he's worth that. I will say, however, that I think it only needs to take one insane team that wants a franchise piece on the back end to make it happen.

This is a no. Carolina will get FAR more for him elsewhere without trading him to a team technically in the division in most normal years.

It's not a great plan for Pittsburg. Even for the Canes, if they are contenders, why would trade their # 1 Dman? Make a run for the Cup and then see what happens in free agency.
Carolina...of all the "good" teams probably have as much cap in 21/22 as any. Canes have the best chance of signing Hamilton long term, though paying top price...probably isn't the wisest decision long term either. Signing a 28 year old Dman for 7 years for top dollar is iffy. Sharks and Kings have regrets.
