Galchenyuk has been trending in the wrong direction for years and you gotta think this is his last shot to stay in the NHL.

More or less, yeah.

I still get the creeping feeling like he is going to have one of those random Sam Gagner-esque “20+ goals on a veteran minimum” seasons at some point, justify staying around a few more years.

Ottawa's biggest win is the roster spot from doing 2 for 1. Hopefully Dzingel does some scoring.

Galchenyuk should actually fit well in carolina as his playstyle is perfect in there system

How does he fit Carolina’s system? He’s pretty much just a good wrist shot attached to the body of an below average AHLer. The only way to have a net positive when Galchenyuk is on the ice is if you just put him on the PP, but don’t play him at even strength at all.

Umm, wow. I guess Dzingel must really hate Ottawa. In which case, this may not be such a good deal for the Sens.

I think it's more that he thought the market would be bigger in free agency. At the time of that contract offer, he was on pace to hit 30 goals, 60+ points. There was reason to assume that there could have been a bigger deal than 5×5 out there. I think his weak showing with CBJ really hurt him in negotiations.

Oof. That sucks for him. He, and the guy that Ottawa got in return for him both misjudged the market severely. Well then as long as there’s no hard feelings between him and the organization, then hopefully he can turn his play around again.

So Ottawa fans welcome back Dzingel with open arms but they want nothing to do with Paul "capdump" Byron. I don't get it.

Isn't Carolina trying to contend this year? This looks more like the type of trade a rebuilding team would make.

They will get picks for Dzingel at the deadline. Think that's their plan with him.

Galchenyuk is on waivers. Canes paid Dizzy for Paqman and Ottawa threw in Chuck.

Carolina could have done a much better job with their return though. Dzingel should do a little better when he isnt shadowed by the likes of Aho and Teravainen

Why u hate Nylander?

Carolina gets cap space and a decent 4th line center. Ottawa gets a 3rd line center

Dzinger is a winger. But yeah, we did need a goon.

Elite Prospects and HockeyDB both list his primary position as center, but you're right, he doesn't seem to take many draws

neutral I guess we got rid of cap space in the end of the day, but I wish we could've kept Dzingel. Galch left faster than I could blink and Paquette didn't show up as we had hoped.

in the end no one really won

I did like Chucky's somewhat redemption with JT and Nylander. While not perfect he still has some talent left

so at least thats a positive.

Real truth watch Paquette resign in tampa 1 year 750k

Carolina placed Galchenyuk on waivers the next day and nobody claimed him.

This suggests that he had virtually no trade value at the time.

The subsequent trade with Toronto for a couple of fillers for the AHL team is beside the point.

So, that means this trade should be looked at as Paquette for Dzingel.

Ottawa wins.
