Why? As a Leafs fan from a pure asset management point of view trading two of our highest value non NHL player pieces for a slight wing upgrade seems crazy

😂 fine a 1st and Hirvonan.

simply put, he's not a good target for the leafs since he will probably be asking for 5M. He's not a guy you want to leave available for Seattle or choose not to qualify, especially at the acquisition cost

Look how much your paying to upgrade your third line w from Vesey to Buchnevich.

That's a huge cost for an upgrade but not THAT big of one.

Essentially let's say over an 82 game season Buchnevich is a 20g 50 player and Vesey/engvall are 12 g 30 point players.

Is the difference worth a first and one of our best prospects?

Frankly I don't think it's worth investing in at all.

I don't think TOR should move for a long-term winger now.

They'd lose him in the ExD.

Go after a rental instead. Imo Pearson or Iafallo are your best bets.

Agreed, the rental road is the way to go. Which is why I would target Buch, Pearson, or Iafallo. This started because some people want to sell the farm for Rakall. Personally I’d take Buch over all three

But isn’t trading for Rakall, Staal, Iafallo, Pearson, the same thing. IMO Buchnevich is better then all of them. The Leafs have a chance to go far this year.

He’s an RFA, trade him or don’t qualify him. Losing him is the same as losing Tanner or Alex

Then maybe make the pick conditional on playing X amount games in 2021-2022.

Otherwise, price too much here.

Perfect, which is what I’m just asking for, the price of Buch and do the Leafs have the pieces the Rangers want. I’m a big fan of his game, would a great add for a playoff run

SEA will just pick him.

Point is that TOR shouldn't acquire a 4 month asset with the cost of a long-term one.

See what happened with EDM and Athanasiou for instance.

But who are we protecting?
Matthews Marner Nylander Tavares
Rielly Brodie Muzzin Holl

If the Leafs trade for a player with term they’d lose those prospects/picks plus whatever the cost to protect them from Seattle. No term rental for this year is the only way to go. Yes, in a non expansion year players with term is way better

Which is exactly why they should trade only for an actual pending UFA. Iafallo and Pearson and maybe Palmieri are just that for example, hence I said they're your best bets.

Then they'll pay for only what is left on his contract, not more or less for naught.

Seattle is going to take Kerfoot anyway unless Leafs will acquire another forward with term. Which is not something they should do.

Agreed Seattle can take anyone other than the big 4 and the 4 d I listed. They can take Buch if they want. He is the target I’d like over the others you listed.

Staal is trading for a 3c and would cost much less. Iafallo and Pearson I wouldn't bother with either

Rackell has cracked 30 goals twice and 60 points once. Buchnevich has had a career high 21 and 46 points.

Rackell can also play c.

I wouldn't use significant assets to acquire any of them except maybe rackell

That was in 2016 and 2017. Rakall is not the answer. Pearson would cost much less and provide the same if not more offence and than Rakell.
