Description
First of all I don't think ward is an nhl coach. This team is so inconsistent it doesn't make any sense. You would think after a complete 60 minute effort against the jets that you would see the reeling Canucks on the schedule for 4 straight and be licking your chops to stand on their necks while they're down. But they play 5 out of 6 absolutely awful periods that I've seen. This tells me you're not an elite or a contending team that has that killer instinct. You wouldn't see a team like Boston or Tampa do what the flames just did the past 2 games. Whether it be coaching, leadership or something else I don't know why this team is unable to find that next gear. They certainly have the talent but something is missing that those elite consistent teams have.

Think we need to entertain some trades for a couple of our core parts and do a rebuild on the fly. And I'm not blaming any of the players I'm proposing to trade, I just don't see us winning with them.

The only thing I don't like about this idea is that we have a binifide #1 goalie and I don't want to spoil his time here because he has been absolutely phenomenal.

Picks must be protected. If they win lottery & NJ misses out on Owen Power, Shane Wright etc they would look like fools.

I said as much. Maybe go to 10 as was noted. But if you are offered something ala hall its obvious you listen.

Despite (relatively) strong start, NJ will be lottery this year & good chance next. They are incredibly young & are looking for more draft capital and prospects, not less. The next two years first rounders are likely nearly untouchable short of a call from Chiarelli.

Maybe this yr as i feel they will tease enough for us to want them in but they won't make any real noise in the PO's imo. I think the following year they are in easily and strongly contending. Mercer, Holtz, Bahl, the Russian defenders will all be ready

BUF would ask for some protection on the 1st but otherwise we say yes

I hope that's true, but Im thinking the road ahead is more difficult. One or more of Mercer, Holtz, Bahl & the Russians may contribute next season, but it will be a transitional / developmental year for them. More than half of those listed wont even make the team. They are certainly not going to be major contributors on a contending team.

Again, I hope im wrong, but thats just not realistic. More likely they take steps backwards as they move forward. Its a long process to go from tear down to contending.

You're over valuing him dude trust me. And he's not a consistent 30 goal scorer lol he's scored 30 twice in 7 years so don't know where you got that. Doesn't look like he'll get to 20 thus year.

This year is a one off, It's 2/3rds of a szn.
3 x 30 goals and twice 27 . He's scored more goals than any other top 10 player in his draft year. More than barkov, mackinnon, lindholm. He has more value than most think. I get he's soft as a muffin but he can still put the puck in the net.

He's also played more games than anyone in that draft year. Mackinnon is beating him by far in goals per game. I know he can put the puck in the net, I'm not arguing that. He's a 1 dimensional player who has no wheels. He relies on being fed in the slot and that's not always reliable. Whens the last time he's scored on a 2 on 1 or a breakaway or even just a shot more than 15 feet from the net? It's been a long time cause he isn't fast enough to be put in those situations. He can't keep up and it's only gonna get worse with age. Centre's need to be able to wheel plain and simple.

Oh i agree with you , exactly why i think he can be a solid 2 c on a really good team. But he has good trade value. He's soft as a muffin but i think he brings you more than a mid 1st rd pick. Cgy needs those points and minutea replaced and mitts sure as hell isn't doing that...

I'd say he is right on the bubble of our "untouchables" but he probably falls just short of being that and he could be had for the right price I would think.
