    Regarding Compher for Labanc:

    1) Sharks don't do that. Labanc is a better, more valuable player than Compher.
    2) Avalanche don't do that either. Compher is cheaper; Labanc is a better player but still a complementary piece. They'd likely target someone like Meier or Hertl from the Sharks.

Also, Seattle doesn't take Jones. No way, Jose!

Well if we're rebuilding the objective would be to

    a) Take on bad contracts for assets like picks and prospects
    b) Tank for better draft lottery possibilities.
    c) Shed any potentially bad contracts.

So apart from the fact that the Avs trade is bad for the Sharks and that Seattle will never take Jones, I just don't think most of the free agent signings make a ton of sense. I think the Kane trade is okay honestly but we'd rather take on bad contracts and keep Jones than spend 10 million on goalies and another 8+ million to get Pearson, Coleman and Goodrow. So in a rebuilding scenario as the Sharks I would personally not make any big FA signings and take on guys like Okposo, Eriksson etc. who are all on short term deals with really bad cap hits. I also might ship out one or two of Meier, Hertl, Couture, Kane or Labanc just for picks or prospects.

The Sharks won't trade Labanc for Compher but if they did I think the Avs would accept.

Hmm I'm not so sure Avs would accept. Labanc is undoubtedly an upgrade in talent, but he's a complementary forward which Avs don't really need and he also has a $4.75m which would be hard to fit into the cap structure going forwards. Moreover, I'd be wary of acquiring a forward with just one season above 0.5ppg pace signed to almost $5m for another 3 years after this season.

Jones would require a first at this point, at minimum sadly.

penguins decline. Why would they give up a younger player on a better contract who is frankly better, for an over paid problem child player.

I was thinking more if we're not re-signing Saad as well.

I'd rather spend that money on resigning a two-way 45-50 point forward than a maybe-50 point PP specialist.
