Defense master plan Who accepts and who doesnt

Created by: CEO
Team: 2021-22 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 14, 2021
Published: Feb. 15, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ever since he was traded, Tanner Pearson leads all the Canucks in scoring. He is criminally underrated, and deserves an extension. Acquiring Stephenson and signing Podkolzin will make one of the best third lines in the league. Reuniting the McNabb-Schmidt pairing will give the Canucks one of the best all round defensive pairings in the league. Simek will be a good partner for Hughes, and could help our defensive struggles greatly.

    All teams decline IMO.

Kings would probably take on LE without retention, but I'm sure they'd want a 2021 first instead of a 2022.

VAN needs more compensation in that 3-way trade

I can't imagine any scenario where SJS trades for Holtby... and that Demko contract is a big mistake. He may sign a 1 year deal, but that aav is waaaaay too high. He should get something like 2 x $2m or something (if he even makes that much $$) -- he's really only looked good in those 4 playoff games last season. He hasn't shown me anything to this point that would make me want to invest heavily into him.

    Vegas absolutely declines.

Why would they pay Edler 500 K more for one season when they have McNabb for two. And both will be playing 1LD with Petro.

Then trade the guy who they have playing 1C and a first round pick for a winger that will be on their second if not third line.

And they have that 1C under a cheap deal for three more years

I know people don’t get him playing there, but he does fit with it two wingers he has in stone and Pacioretty

Simek is quite literally one of the last guys we should be trading at this point. And even if we were trading him that’s not the return we’d be looking for at all.

So you'd rather lose Burns in the draft

Yes, absolutely. Love the man but we needs the cap space and he’s redundant with Karlsson here as well. That’s assuming Seattle takes him though which is far from inevitable.

The best case scenario would be SEA taking Burns lol. I would be more disappointed if they took Sorensen or some other player.

Detroit would easily take LE for a 2022 1st without retention. Yzerman picked up the tab of Staal for slightly less actual cash for a second so this would be a slam dunk and we also need to add cap anyway.

Because it might be a lottery pick. Now Detroit would obviously take it but Vancouver wouldn't want to give it up and a non lottery 1st is fair for a year of LE.

They’d take either. If someone offered me a choice between the two though I’m going 2022 as I like not only the top end much better but the depth throughout the first two rounds. Assuming same overall pick.

There are some interesting mid to late round projected first rounders though for 2021. For instance, using EP’s ranking 15-32 OVR, Olausson (15), Sillinger (18), Lambos (21), Pastujov (30). I think the biggest head scratcher for me is Lambos at 21.

How many times do the rankings not work out the way they are projected on draft day? Almost every draft, the ranking go out the window after the top 3 picks. Lambos will go around 7-10 IMO.

I just picked an arbitrary free site for their rankings which is why I even said Lambos is a head scratcher. I could do the same for all of the sites and a lots going to change now to draft time. The main point is that a first rounder is coming back regardless of the year.

Vegas declines easily and I'm happy with his play but Stephenson is in no way a 1C. It's even kind of disingenuous to say he plays that role for us, he doesn't in the sense everyone thinks about it.

He is in the position that many good third liners have found themselves in over the years where they are the third forward (usually its a winger, not a center) thrown in with two tremendous linemates that help them look like they are a top six forward.

Stone drives that line offensively and defensively like a 1C everyone thinks of would and Pacioretty is an elite creative and goal scoring player who also carries a lot of the weight. Of course Stephenson fits with Pacioretty and Stone, any center who is even decent will look great with those two playing how they have been.

It also doesn't hurt that they need Glass to help stabilize the line with Roy and Tuch to give us three dangerous lines, and he is.

I agree he’s not a true number one center. My point was though they aren’t going to trade the guy they have playing there for another winger

That is the one area they need to upgrade in this season I believe. But I am willing to give glass a chance there too. But I see that more of the next season thing
