Ah yes, they trade assets for a guy they could’ve gotten for free yesterday. Good job Dubas.

NGL, I like this more for the Canes rather than the Leafs. Hope I am wrong.
Maybe Korshkov said he wasn't coming back?

Edit b/c people don't seem to understand:
The reason the Leafs didn't claim Galch was because they'd have to keep him on the roster, not the taxi squad. Players of his calibre often have more value after going through waivers than before. Dubas can now put him on the taxi squad for cap purposes, or send him to the Marlies. We couldn't if we claimed him off waivers.

No risk move for the Leafs, but I wouldn’t expect anything out of him. (Assuming they didn’t want either player)

Good deal for the Canes, getting free depth for Chicago.

If Korshkov or Warsofsky become anything this is a clear win for the Canes.

Edit: I just saw both Korshkov’s stats. If he comes back to North America, this is a big win for the Canes.

Galchenyuk is not an acquisition. He cleared waivers yesterday and is not an NHL player. I guess Toronto didn't give up anything of quality (If Korshkov was still in the AHL he would be one). Hopefully Toronto just wanted to boost the Marlies

If he ends up playing any games with the big team, I cannot wait for Leafs fans’ reaction to Galchenyuk. Considering the complaining about Gardiner, Ceci, and Zaitsev, the fanbase will hate Galchenyuk thoroughly for how bad of a player he is.

Leafs needed Galchenyuk to clear waivers to put him on the taxi squad that is why they waited.

If they claim him from the Canes, and try to get him through waivers, Carolina can claim him back and if they're the only team that puts in a claim, can send him directly to the AHL/taxi squad.

Galchenyuk is a much more valuable asset for the Leafs if he's waivers exempt for 10 games/ 30 days (or, whatever the prorated numbers are for this season).

The reason Toronto gave up assets and did not claim Galchenyuk off of waivers is simple. Toronto opened up a contract slot by trading 2 players for a depth signing and contract flexibility. If they had claimed Galchenyuk off of waivers they would have filled 3 contract slots as opposed to how they’ve only filled one and freed up 2.

To all the geniuses saying that they could of had him for free. Leafs needed to move contracts and salary. Korshkov and Warsofsky aren’t particularly valuable anyway.

Guessing this is because Galchenyuk can be useless in the AHL without needing to quarantine for 14 days. Clears a contract out too.

This is actually decent asset management, not great but I get it. They are 1st in the league so they got last crack at him. They knew that if they passed him up they could trade for him and pass in between the taxi squad and the roster easily. And since he cleared waivers, they knew his value would be worthless and they got him for two almost worthless pieces

Assuming Korshkov wasn't coming back to TOR I see this as a win for both.

I think Toronto wins since Korshkov is good but they obviously wouldn’t trade him if he was going to play for them so it becomes Galchenyuk for Warsofsky and I’m a big Galch fan soo
