Hindsight is 20-20.

At the time of the 2020 draft, I would have picked Laf and Kaako.

For the same reasons the Rangers might have had to pick them earlier.

That's just me.

Honestly, I know this wasn’t apart of the question but I would’ve rather seen NYR draft Turcotte over kakko, but still take laff. Having laff and Turcotte would be ideal.

If I had to choose I’d take Byfield and Turcotte. I don’t think kakko has showed he can put it together at the NHL level. I think both Byfield and Turcotte will be good. Laffs ceiling doesn’t outweigh what I think will be two really good top 6 C’s.

I think they'll all be fine tbh. They're all young (Kakko just turned 20) and not every player will have the immediate meteoric rise that Matthews and McDavid had when they started.

Having said that, in hindsight I wish the Rangers took Turcotte in 2019 and Laf in 2020. Turcotte would be the 2C we've been looking for for years.

This. I think Laf will develop well, but I’ll say it.

I think Kakko is a flat out bust.

Kakko is in his second NHL season and turned 20 just this month. How can anyone that young and inexperienced in pro hockey be considered a bust? He's learning to be effective away from the puck and comes from a European rink and style of play.

I think it's very hard to weigh in on this considering turcotte and byfield have not played any NHL games yet. all these kids are young and not everyone can come into the league and tear it up right away like McDavid or Matthews.

and when people say "laf is a bust, kaprizov is better" are kind of oblivious to the 4 year age difference between the two.

It’s my opinion. I also think Trevor Lawrence is going to be a bust and he’s zero games into his NFL career.

I’ve watched him play for a season and a bit now. I’ve seen little to no improvement. I think he looks lost, and I don’t think he will ever live up to his draft position. If that bugs you, oh well.

KK is not and won't be a bust.
look at his progression from last season to the few games he's played this season - it's night and day.
KK's progress is not tied to ability, it's tied to confidence.

tough to call a 20 year old, with less than 80 NHL games on a rebuilding team, a bust...

He looked like crap then. He looks like crap now. I ventured my opinion on what i think he will be. If that hurts your feelings, i can live with that.

Glad to see that you know he won’t be a bust though. Can you tell me what the powerball numbers will be since you can apparently see the future?

You can think whatever you want lol. I'm not saying you can't. I just think it's crazy to judge a player who has not even played a full 82 games yet and just turned 20 years old. Most players don't even enter into the league until they are at least 20. And progress isn't only measured in points.

Buddy, I think you're taking other people's opinions the wrong way. You said yourself that that NFL prospect will be a bust despite not playing a professional game yet. One could make a similar quip about seeing into the future based on that statement.

Just trying to bring some civility to this site. I see far too many interactions boil over into insults and mockery. Just here to talk about hockey.

Frankly, if you aren’t judging players every time you watch them, regardless of age, what the heck is the point? It’s called critical thinking.

A crazy statement would be to say, “he is definitively a bust, he won’t be good. His ceiling is capped. He stinks.”

I didn’t say that though. He’s looked bad, and I think he’ll be a bust. Could he have a major breakthrough and figure it out? Absolutely. He could have a heck of a game, get some confidence, and be a point per game player from here on out, and I would be wrong. It’s happened before and it will happen again.

Having said that, I feel okay about this one. I think sometimes young players struggle at five on five because it’s a lot to learn, but when they get more space on the powerplay, they look a bit more at home. I think that’s a really good indicator that a guy will figure it out. I don’t see it on the powerplay either from him.

I’m judging him, because I judge every player every time i watch hockey. He’s looked bad, and I think there are a lot of indicators that he won’t live up to his potential in the NHL. The end.

The difference: I think. That other poster said, “KK is not, and will not be a bust.”

I said I think this player will be a bust.

See the difference, buddy?

I guess all we can do is wait and see on Kakko. See if he proves himself a bust or an NHL player.

Okay Q, settle down. You’re calling me defensive? Who’s cancelling you? What are you talking about? Why are you so afraid?

I never got defensive. I defended my position, and strongly stated why yours was so stupid.

Awful lotta people who were whining about snowflakes really starting to act like a snowflake.
