TBH I think the Rangers made a mistake picking Lafreniere. They already have 2 LWs locked up in the top 6, they need a 1C. Should’ve picked Byfield!

Always pick the better player... rule of thumb. Kreids will be in 3LW soon and Laf needs some time, like 99% of draft picks.... No mistake was made as we have many other assets to acquire a 1C/2C

MacKinnon is a centre and there is no comparing c to w. Taylor Hall played in the OHL

I think Lafreniere is similar to Hall talent wise. Both big physical power forwards who like to throw the body & battle for pucks. Lafreniere just isn’t quick though.

I mean it’s 13 games & he doesn’t have a point at EV. Not entirely his fault cuz he’s playing with Howden & Di Gieuseppe getting mostly defensive zone starts unlike other rookies but for all the hype he got he still needs to produce.

I figured Sandin alone may not have been enough, even though Lafreniere is struggling production wise. What about Abramov + Sandin + 1st?

Youre just a troll then... I get it now.

He hasn't looked bad, needs some strength and confidence with shooting and playing time with the right players. I have 0 concerns and same goes for other NYR fans. You can try to minimize him if you want but it doesn't mean you're right.

I feel maybe TOR adds a bit in the Laf trade but the other 2 are in the ballpark.

What? I’m serious, I just don’t think Laf is worth as much as you think.

Yep he needs to work on his shot & decision making. He’s actually third on the team in individual expected goals so he’s getting plenty of chances, but the skill is not quite there yet.

We are less than 6 months removed from him being taken first overall. Guy was more hyped up than Hischer, Hughes, Dahlin and probably Matthews.

Give your head a shake.

Charts and numbers are fun and all but sometimes just watching him play in every game helps you see his value and potential. He's used to being large in a kids league and now bodies smaller than him are stronger, a proper year or 2 of training to bulk up in strength will make a massive difference like it did with Hughes. No concerns what so ever, just means a nice affordable bridge contract instead of the instant 11M deals like matthews and marner

That Ranger trade......Rangers say No. Moving Matthews to wing just to insert Strome to centre, a big no from the Leafs.

Yes he was the most hyped & accomplished junior player out of all those 1st overall picks. But he hasn’t made a smooth transition to the top level & he won’t get an opportunity over Panarin or Kreider.

I saw the games NYR played against PIT & he was really aggressive but with the puck on his stick, he wasn’t particularly impressive. He just doesn’t seem use to the skill level & intensity yet but I feel the grit he brings would be valuable to TOR.

Of course any grit would be valued in TOR, doesn't mean NYR would give up a promising prospect because he bring more physical presence than skill currently, great foresight. Sandin isn't even close to his value.. Send them Lemieux for grit, not a future superstar lol. He's projected to be anywhere from Huberdeau-Crosby. Same goes for Kakko, he isn't a dud by any means..

I agree he’s a good player but At his current level a 1st + 2nd should do it IMO.

The 1st is going to be very late and in a wierd year with limited scouting and a very weak draft. The 2nd is just for retention. Hawks can do better than just a 2021 late 1st, or else they just keep him

People are crazy obsessed with what have you done for me lately.

Also guys who make the NHL at 18 are unfairly compared to their peers in junior/other leagues.

A guy like KK comes to the NHL and looks like a teenager. Another guy in his draft year will go dominate against 17 and 18 year olds and they'll think he is better...

I am prepared to be corrected over time, but I will never have the same hype for a w as a C.

W just in general don't impact the game as much. There are the rare exceptions (and you have one on your team in Panarin) but in general it's true. Over the last 16 years there have been about 4 generational c's in Crosby, Matthews, Eichel and McDavid (maybe Drai and Malkin too). There has been one Ovechkin and maybe Kane.

Look up the 15th highest scoring winger of the last few years and you're going to have a guy like Hoffman. 15th highest scoring c will be a guy like Scheifele.

And to be clear I am not arguing with you that he got the hype. He did. I just wouldn't have hyped him as much.

I'm expecting more Huberdeau/Hall/Nash then Crosby/McJesus

(Those are all excellent players)

Well I know management/coaching talked to him about moving back to C as he did play C at one point. Now it may not work out but they will likely try it out

IDK if you can get a better return than this. I feel you’re setting the price too high.

I don’t doubt that Lafreniere has the talent to develop into a superstar, but he needs to have the opportunity to do so. He’s not getting a chance in NYR so they may as well trade him for other areas of need.
