If Nashville Are Sellers

Created by: Leon_McNuge
Team: 2020-21 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 16, 2021
Published: Feb. 16, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The reason I trade Koskinen for Rinne is because Rinne is a more proven goalie who has 1 year left, also Nashville is Selling so they acquire some picks for the draft. Rinne is also 38, he's not the same goalie he was before. He's still a good goalie, but not near the same value.

Since the Oilers get Rinne and his contract is up after this season, we let him go in FA and push for a legitimate starter and backup goalie.

The Preds get 2 draft picks, a solid defensive prospect in Samorukov, and a goalie who can play under a great under a solid workload and a goalie who pushes him, such as Juuse Saros.

This off-season the Oilers have lots of money to resign and add pieces, and can ultimately completely change this team and make them contenders. We get out from under Koskinen contract for a season to push for a better goalie and spend on other pieces.

HUGE overpay for Rinne. He isn't much more than a 1B at this point

Overpay for rinne and a tandem of 38 year olds is not very promising

You're looking at it the wrong way. It's not an overpay for Rinne, it's not enough incentive for NSH to take Koskinen off EDM's hands.

At first, I looked at it and said “that’s a huge overpayment for Rinne” I’ll definitely take that as a Nashville fan... then I saw Koskinen had another year at 4.5M and thought... is that enough for me to want to pay an underachieving goalie 4.5M next season....

That goalie trade is horrible Nashville would be winning it if it was Koskinen Rinne 1 for 1.

A lot of this deal is the fact that we get rid of the Koski contract and make even more space so we can sign a legitimate #1 this offseason. koski is a good goalie, we've seen him play in a 1A/1B scenario last season and he thrived in it. and with Nashvilles solid D core they'll see a better Koskinen then we have now.

ive said it before and ill say it again. Koskinen is a good goalie. His play when its bad gets focused on way more then when its actually good. With that d core in Nashville you'll see a different Koskinen without a doubt
