idk about them, but if I'm LA manager going into rebuild already with great pieces I would take this and run with it.

Looking at it after posting .... have those thoughts too.
CapFriendly is a tough crowd...
LA would definitely offer a few other bottom 6 options, bottom 4 dmen.
Im figuring Kopitar plays a role ALOT like Messier.
This group needs a WINNER to lead them, show the kids.
Few better examples around the league.

I would think the kings would happily take this as well. Getting out of the last four years of an aging 8 figure contract is kind of a gift.

Not trying to shove either down their throats, its more about the 10 mil coming over.

Agreed, not this year.
But a path needs the be laid out.
A Leader is not stepoing forward thus far.
Kopitar is about much more than numbers , i believe.

Kings would do this in a heartbeat lol.

My question is why would the Rangers do this? They aren't ready to contend.

Ya, but the rangers probably aren’t going to be contending next year either. Do you want 10 million 35 year old kopitar when it’s time to contend? Seems like there’s a decent chance he would be adding to the buyout toll.

Nah, Kings need Kopitar to stick around and move down the lineup when the kids are ready and provide leadership when they finally start going to the playoffs. The problem with your trade is it doesn’t give the Kings a top winger, top defenseman, or goalie that is projected better than Petersen, so why would they do this? The Kings will only entertain moving Kopitar when it’s clear Byfield, Turcotte, and Vilardi are ready to lead the team.

Why do you think this addresses what the Kings need? Neither Turcotte or Turcotte are ready.

Not arguing your point. However, Kopitar is playing top level now.
Next year who knows....
My hope is he brings MUCH more than just points.
In this current roster.. 35 year old Kopitar might still be #2 option. No talented upcoming centremen for in system. Save Chytil...

Age and cap. Do you think teams are eager to take on a contract that pays a bigger forward 10 million until he’s 37?

But what if he isn’t? It’s not like he would be the first guy to hit the hard decline at that age. In fact, if he keeps it up he would be the exception. If the cap is still flat then, which it almost certainly will be, a 10 million player that can barely play would be a disaster.

The Kings have the most cap space in the league, the kings don’t need to trade Kopitar at this point he provides more value as a teacher and leader to Turcotte and Byfield, than for picks. it’s already worked for Vilardi, and our future 4th line center Jared Anderson Dolan used to live with the Kopitars and he’s just scored 3 goals in 5 games since his rookie debut. Like Vilardi literally has said several times he credits his play improvement to watching and working with Kopitar.

So trade talks can start with D Nils Lundquist.?
Hes one if the top D prospects in all of hockey.
But still need to offset the cap hit...
Think youre undervaluing Buchnevich n Kravtsov.

Kings have prospects of similar caliber in their prospect system. I don’t see trades with the Rags unless it’s something crazy like Turcotte for Kappo or Laffy. The thing I think you all are missing is, the Kings went through a large rebuild and decided to continue to build around Kopitar, he’s part of the future, he’s going to teach and on his final year will play a 3rd line shutdown role with Byfield and Turcotte or Vilardi as the one two punch.

You think it’s out of the question that Kopitar can still play in 2023 as a third line center once Byfield and Turcotte are ready? Will he be worth $10M then, heck no, but if Byfield and Turcotte want their spots they need to show they can play better than Kopitar or Vilardi. I think it’s precisely what Blake planned for.

Robitaille and Blake have already said that the rebuild is centered around Kopitar and Doughty. They're not about to trade their single best player when they're just about to come out of their rebuild.

If you want to include Kakko or Lafreniere then maybe the Kings would listen. Otherwise they'll stick with their captain and future Hall of Fame center until he retires.
