It might wildly optimistic that Seattle selects 3.4m Byron. I like Armia but in today's NHL maybe 2.875, is too much for 3rd liner.
But to answer your question, looks like Montreal might be forced to bridge their three young RFAs on "smallish" contracts. Then in couple of years their stars get raises and some of current players leave as UFAs, and Habs hope they have ELCs capable of being NHLers. Montreal is has done a good job in having a good group of prospects and even a bunch of draft picks this year. If they have good fortune, maybe they will have a handful of capable NHLers on ELCs in a few years.

In that trade I have us paying a 2nd to make it happen.

If you could sign one of the three to a 6 year deal, who would you pick and for how much?

Seattle can spend 3.4m and get a real NHLer instead of Byron. Seems like every team will make a proposal to dump a bad contract on Seattle. Even if it's two bad contracts they take, the chances that it's Montreal is 1 in 15.
Seattle owes to to it's fans and player to put forth the best team possible. Having Byron and the 55 selection which may or may not help in four years doesn't shout, we are trying to win.

That’s fair. If not the expansion draft, we can trade him somewhere else and attach a pick. He’s a valuable player though. Just overpaid (in the current economy).
