Description

The Rangers clearly need a shakeup. Could this work for both teams, given the two "main" pieces need/want to be traded?

While I'd like to leave it as DeAngelo for Stepan, that would create logjams for both teams at RHD/C, so throw in Gudbrandson (low risk for NYR on one year) and Strome (clearly not working as a 2C, maybe can be a good 3C/winger option for OTT) to even it out. NYR may need to add some picks/prospects given contract term differences.

One potentially large problem could be that this would need to wait for Chytil to get healthy, as this would decimate the Rangers' depth for a bit given the Canadian quarantines for Stepan/Gudbrandson. This trade really only makes sense if the Rangers still think they can make a playoff push, I suppose. Although it does help clear cap for next year regardless.

This is a big win for Ottawa, right now. Strome is off to a bad start, but Stepan is doing worse.

Deangelo went -6 in 6 games with 1 point and a public meltdown. Gudbranson is -13 in 17 games with two points.

The Rangers get guys two and four years older, who got a lot fewer points last year, and aren't as likely to bounce back. That's more than enough to make up for Deangelo's being a trash teammate who will be traded away again by the deadline.

I actually like this deal bc it brings more of a veteran presence in the locker room. plus gives us more cap at the end of the season. Win win for Ottawa and rangers in my opinion.

Looks great to me. Not thrilled to have Stepan back and Gudbranson is obviously horrible but the fact that we will essentially be offloading $10 million next year is good enough for me. Plus we can finally move on from the detrimental Strome experiment. Addition by subtraction.

I don't think the Rangers expect to be in the playoff race this year and are anticipating another lottery race. I'm all here for it. One more year of rebuilding and offloading $10 mil next year is great.

Yes, would love to see Chytil get a long term run as the 2C. Removing the Strome crutch also allows the ability to unite Panarin and Zib since Strome can only function with Panarin on the Rangers. If Chytil can keep playing the way he did prior to the injury, and Howden keeps playing well, I wouldn't mind seeing Zib/Chytil/Howden/Rooney as the center depth long term

I'm glad ya'll aren't seeing this as a loss for OTT, since that'd be the only way to make it work. I struggle to find many suitors for DeAngelo elsewhere, primarily this year. Who knows what happens if this drags on into the offseason... I guess a buy out would need to be the option then?
