Predicting the Post-TDL Leafs

Created by: TML_GM
Team: 2016-17 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 12, 2016
Published: Dec. 13, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just some ideas to further the roster turnover and give some guys an audition similar to last season, assuming the team is out of playoff contention near the deadline.

Less about exact values on returns, more about what some teams might be looking for and who the Leafs could part with to create roster space and opportunity to take next year's rookies for a test drive.

Bozak/Komarov are less likely to move with the second year left, but I think now is the right time to move them out.

Moving Bozak provides an opportunity to really test Nylander at C with quality line-mates in a top 6 role.

Komarov is essentially replaced by Soshnikov, less physical, but a pest who is younger, faster, more skilled and defensively responsible.

Tryouts from the Marlies:

Kapanen
Leipsic
Gauthier
Bowey* (Trade acquisition, but a similar tryout could be provided to Valiev, Nielson or Dermott / they could be rotated into the lineup as well)

Just an FYI the last 2 deals are really bad for the other teams. Not really in the realm of being reasonable.

Probably too much from Hunwick but we say this annually and teams overpay for D.

I'm not sure.
I like where you're going with the trades, Manson would be a decent pick up and Bowey and Samsonov would be freaking great in my opinion, but I just don't think the value is good for either trades, nor do I think Bozak is gonna go for so little considering how much past forwards have gone for at the TDL. Also, I don't see Anaheim moving two RHD - one being in the majority of the games this season if not all - for a playoff run.

Can't see Washington giving up two premier prospects for three guys who have to find a spot on the Caps 23 man roster. Komarov is nice but still 3rd liner, Marincin is holding on as 6th Dman in Toronto, and Rychel can't make the Leafs now. The Ducks are deep at centre and really don't need Bozak, and BStone made a viable statement on the Ducks Dman. Post season/pre expansion, I could see the Leafs/Ducks make a trade to as the Ducks can only protect 3 Dman most likely.

How is Manson, a legit #4 D on an entry level deal and Stoner - a guy who has re-established himself as an NHL dman, a bad return for Bozak? ANA would laugh.
