Rearranged Penguins

Created by: OutCold13
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 14, 2021
Published: Feb. 18, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
To me the Penguins will take one more crack at this. Don't worry to much about the picks I've traded away, there is a good chance they recoup them when they finally do sell off. You will notice I kept the 2022 1st as that could be a lottery ticket for Shane Wright.
I'm sure I've made a number of bad trades here tell me how to fix them. I think I've explained my thinking on them.
Burke likes a versatile team and I think this one is. It has the top finesse guys and it has bottom physical guys it has great goaltending and clutch goal scorer's. Biggest flaw is it's a bit old.
Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Ryan, Bobby
Additional Details:
Ryan is a Burke player. He is a finisher and he has a bit of truculence to his game. He has bounced back since dealing with his issues. Penguins get a bit of cap space here as well.
DET
  1. McCann, Jared
Additional Details:
Penguins lose this trade in the long run but Penguins aren't playing for the long run, it's win now. Wings get a good piece for their rebuild.
2.
PIT
  1. Gibson, John
Additional Details:
Penguins aren't going anywhere without improved netminding.
ANA
  1. Jarry, Tristan
  2. Marino, John
Additional Details:
This was the price I saw reported for Gibson, but who really knows.
3.
PIT
  1. Gambrell, Dylan
  2. Jones, Martin ($1,750,000 retained)
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (SJS)
  4. 2023 1st round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
This is mainly a cap space move for the Penguins. Jones might be a solid backup? Gambrell looks like a good young 4th line center, who can be relied upon defensively.
SJS
  1. DeSmith, Casey
  2. Zucker, Jason
  3. 2021 7th round pick (PIT)
  4. 2022 7th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Sharks would love to dump Jones and getting Zucker in return is a win he has much better value then Jones and should be a movable asset. I think Zucker would be ok playing in San Jose being a Vegas native, so close to home. I may need to adjust picks here to get value right.
4.
PIT
  1. Dumba, Matt
  2. Hartman, Ryan
  3. Zuccarello, Mats ($1,000,000 retained)
  4. 2022 6th round pick (MIN)
  5. 2023 7th round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
Zuccarello should look good on the 2nd line, Dumba brings more offense to the blue line and Hartman is a gritty player who is good at chipping in goals.
MIN
  1. Dumoulin, Brian
  2. Kapanen, Kasperi
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (PIT)
  4. 2023 1st round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Wild get Kap and a 1st for Dumba, not what they want but it is something. Wild get out from under the Zuccarello contract and I believe he would waive his NMC to play with Crosby and Malkin. Wild get Dumoulin, another guy they can dangle in front of Seattle and a cap dump by the Penguins and the Wild get a 2nd for Hartman rental. Not sure I have this trade balanced but tell me what you think.

Ducks decline.

Also why are Pens fans so caught up on winning another cup? They’re ruining their future by trading away all their picks and prospects and all their stars are aging by the day. Why not sell and begin getting ready to contend again in the long term? Pittsburgh’s window closed and they should start rebuilding for the future

If you take out Zuccarello, Hartman, the 6th and the 7th it's close?

Minnesota declines. Wild aren't taking on any type of long term contract such as Brian d. Wild don't need d , & have no room for one.

Wild GM ask for Dumba has been a top 6c. Whether he budges off that remains to be seen.

no one is giving up anything near that for Ryan.
Gibson won't get you Marino. Name me one goaltender who's pulled a value like that in a trade. Just 1.
SJS trade doesn't work for either team. SJS is rebuilding they aren't looking for a 29 year old winger.
Huge over pay to MIN

I didn't love the Sharks trade either. I needed to move Zuckers salary and thought this could be a decent way to move Jones out. I think Zucker is worth a 1st but I also see the Sharks very reluctant to give one up.

I figured if Wild could move out Zuccarello most people would be pretty happy with that. The 6th and 7th were to balance picks but not necessary and Hartman who will be A high arbitration number RFA probably doesn't get a QO so Wild can re-sign him after the season if they like, he really is nothing more than a rental.

I'm not a Pens fan but it's been made pretty clear that the Penguins are all in this year and then looking at a rebuild in the off-season. So I would guess that is why the fans are caught up in winning a cup.

Zuccarello is a better player than Kapanen, and even though his contract isn't ideal, he's not a dump. Kapanen is a third liner who's fast but dumb as a rock, we don't want or need him. All this does is forfeit value in exchange for a first round pick that may not even see the NHL for 5-7 years.
