Take Severson and Demelo out, and it’s a maybe.

Do you really think Zajac and Murray will get a first plus a high prospect?

Demelo and a 1st for Severson, two young guys and a pick for two rentals....its fair if they are willing to send Severson away imo.

There is a couple of problems with this trade

1. Devils aren't trading Severson unless its an overpay
2. Not sure if Zajac would waive for Winnipeg
3. Devils could trade Murray, but at the right price

Zajac is a Winnipegger, Murray was acquired for a 2nd anyways so thats not a big deal...I agree with Severson, hence I said about NJD management being willing to trade him.

I thought he could waive to Winnipeg but he didn't waive last year to the Isles (a team with old Devils players and Lou). I think he might want to retire as a Devils but that could change.
Murray was acquired for a 5th but he has been playing solid for the Devils. The Devils would be more comfortable giving away Butcher.

Count me out on any and all Trade deadline deals from American teams. The 14 Day quarantine will render any player we acquire essentially useless. They won't have time to pick up the systems once they're out of quarantine as they'll be like 5 or 6 games before the playoffs start and as we've seen first hand with PLD that being trapped in a hotel room for 14 days can easily result in muscle pulls when you go from zero to 100%.

This is a year to just roll with what we've got.

Maybe just simplify this deal and have jets acquiring Severson? NOt sure what it would take, but someone mentioned "overpaying" which is what everyone does at the deadline.

What a player is acquired for has absolutely no bearing on what they are worth in the future. Murray is playing well beyond his pre season value. He's minimum a second as a rental right now ... and if NJD think they can extend him, I suspect he will be unavailable outside of an overpay.

Yiu are 100% spot on ... its a serious issue this year ... I suspect teams will establish a soft internal deadline, before the League TDL, to take these issues into account.

No, I don't expect Zajac/Murray to get 1st plus high prospect.
But if Devils are retaining max amount on both and that "high prospect" is Kristian Vesalainan....then, well, yes, its about even.

NJD are not dealing Severson. And they have no use for Vesalainen. So the mid-to-late first pick is all they are getting thats of use to them.



In this case, a straight Severson swap, would probably be Ehlers or Connor

Wouldnt the devils be interested in futures? prospects and picks? it's not like Severson fits their timeline and there is no way the jets deal Ehlers or Connor IMO

Severson is 26 and and is coming into his own as NJD's #1 and part of their core going forward.
And the Devils have more picks, prospects, young players than they have roster spots.
Now, other than filling holes, they are growing from within.



He asked what it would take to get straight Severson deal done. That is what it would take.
