Description
I have always been a big fan of Paul Maurice. I find myself wondering if he is the right coach for the skilled roster he has been given to run. I really liked Roslovic and always wondered why Maurice didn't trust him between Laine and Ehlers. It would appear now, that he was up to the task. That lack of trust/ability to recognize potential not only cost the Jets Rosy, but also the first round draft picks the team gave up to fill the spot Roslovic coveted. Changing his number to 28 had to be the least subtle move ever. 27-28-29. I fear the organization will have a similar fate with Niku (who I have Seattle nabbing in expansion on this roster).

By nature of the market, the Jets must hold true to their draft and develop approach. The team has been one of the most successful in their scouting and drafting in the NHL. Problem is, they have a coach who will always favour his wily vets over the prospects. The logjam of defense prospects (Heinola, Samberg, Stanley, Niku, Chisholm, and Gawanke) are all watching Forbort, Beaulieu, Poolman and DeMelo get signed to hinder their opportunities to grow.

This roster represents a similar approach to previous offseasons with the Jets bringing in veterans Granlund and Savard to fill roster spots for which prospects should be able to compete. That said, I like this line-up.

Granlund signs a 1 year deal in another flat cap offseason. Savard was Dubois's roommate in CLB. Reportedly close friends.

These are my lines to a T. Only differences is that I have Seattle selecting Stanley (so I brought back Forbort on a 1 year deal in case Samberg isn't ready) & I opted not to sign any forward UFA's. The way Appleton has been playing this year I slotted him on the 3rd line with Perfetti & Stastny. Vesalainen takes the last spot on the 4th line. I also love the Savard signing, I have been including him in my AC-GM's too!

Thanks for the comment Rooney. I'm assuming your roster would have about $3M in cap space that mine wouldn't. I just figured that with another year of flat cap, there will be another opportunity for value contracts.

Exactly! The more I look at this roster though, I definitely wouldn't be opposed to adding a player like Granlund on a 1 year deal. It certainly wouldn't hurt. Either way, I like the roster man!

Like the lineup.
If WPG gets a RHD for this years playoffs, I don't mind Savard. Not my first choice but on my list.
Hoping DeMelo is exposed and is pickup by Seattle. Poolman would fill the 3 line RHD.

The thinking on Savard is more around Dubois and a long-term contract. The "winner" of the PLD/Laine trade will inevitably be who can get the better long term deal out of their player. Although Roslovic is proving that he was more than Maurice saw in him.

Agree that Savard isn't my first choice necessarily, although I still think he's a good target. My reasoning for signing him was the exact same as @TrueNorth , I was more so looking at it from a perspective of signing PLD long term...but also filling a need for the Jets.
