Description

Asks if you would pay Phil Danault $4mm+ on a 5 year deal. Equated him getting more elsewhere to the example of the Leafs overpaying Komisarek.
Buyer beware. Yes Danault is a useful player at $3.08mm, but is he really underpaid? How many players with zero goals in now close to 40 games get more than $2mm? I’m starting to think his next deal has a 3 handle on it, not even 4.

If he’s “fantastic” with zero goals in close to 40 games, how would you describe him if he had 10 goals during that timeframe?

Defensive players don’t get paid the same way as goal scorers. Facts.

Defensive players absolutely can be just as effective on the ice. But that says nothing of their contracts. The point is they don’t get paid what the goal scoring UFAs do. That’s not market inefficiency, that’s the basic economic laws of scarcity, supply and demand.
