I am a firm believer that selling pieces from this team would be a big mistake and hinder the progress of our rebuild as It currently stands. We have seen lots of teams undergo rebuilds, and struggle to come out of them due to a loosing mentality preventing progress. Think of teams like Buffalo, Edmonton, and the other suspects as examples. If we sell from this team while they are winning, we are going to be sending a frustrating message to the veterans as well as a loosing message to the rookies.

If they start to falter, and fall far out of a playoff spot by the deadline, then you sell and focus on the positives of the early season. As it stands right know you let them know that you are keeping the team together as long as they work hard and are competitive. The odds are not in our favor to get an impact player in this draft class, or at least one that's going to contribute in the next two years. Trust our scouting to find a good players in the middle of the rounds and build a winning culture.

It's actually a very smart idea to be the middle man in a deal for Hall. But I'm not sure if a contender needs to do that. With the pro rated cap hit at the deadline, Hall's cap hit for his new team is just under $1M which is pretty simple to fit in. But if a team wants him for even half of that, they'd be smart to jump in

I'm pretty sure TOR has roughly $130k in deadline cap space and about $1M in LTIR space. Yes, Dubas can work around a cap with the best of them, but I'm not so sure it's quite as easy as at least it sounds like from reading your post. Not suggesting it HAS to be TOR. Just using them as an example of a contender that might be in the mix.

The real issue is how much "extra" does a middle man get. Ironically the other reason I thought of TOR is because they did exactly this last year in the Lehner Trade. They ate $1.1M and it was worth a 5th round pick. I don't think the son of "Dollar Bill Wirtz" will be eating anything for a 5th rounder.

Leafs are accumulating cap space every day. Plus the have LTIR space from injuries this season. They'll have more than $130K to add at the deadline

Maybe so. I'm not in all the inner workings of TOR. Thats just what capfriendly is stating will be their deadline available cap space.
