In what universe is Bonino worth a first? Hard pass

Bonino has been hella trash this year. No thanks
His defensive metrics are just fine. He's also been playing on a terrible Wild team and been utilized above his role. Bonino at 3C and Kerfoot to the top 6 is a smart move for Toronto.
Bonino as a 3C this year, would be great. To say he's been bad, shows that you haven't watched or looked into him. Don't care that he has 2 points in 11 games, he's also started 57.7% of his zone starts in the defensive end. He's 55.9% on faceoffs (Kerfoot is at 41%). Bonino's PDO is at 93.6% (anything under 100% says the player is unlucky) which is massively dragged down by his on ice save percentage being 85.9% which actually suggests that the problem has been Minnesota's goaltending, not Bonino. Opposed to Kerfoot who's PDO is at 103.6% (anything over 100% says the player has been lucky), which is helped out by his on ice save percentage being 92.9%, saying that Toronto's goaltending has been better when Kerfoot is on the ice. Toronto's PK needs help to go deep in playoffs, Bonino brings that plus proven playoff experience at producing points. His speed and style of play fit right in with Toronto's style of play.
Some will obviously argue that a 1st is too high, sure on paper it is. It'll be a late 1st though, essentially an early 2nd. And in reality the teams that actually have an early 2nd round pick won't be in any position to trade for a rental like Bonino. So it lowers Toronto's value on their actual 2nd cause it'll be a late pick. I wouldn't be shocked if Bonino would get a late 1st because he's then going to a contender and it's a top heavy draft, after the top 8-10 it kinda falls off quite a bit. Not an overly huge price to pay, but also have to beat the other offers that Minnesota would get.
I based the trade more off of Toronto paying for a need, more than Bonino's value. Similar to last year when Tampa acquired Goodrow from San Jose for a 1st. No one thought Goodrow was worth a 1st, but it fit exactly what Tampa needed and helped them get over the hump. Same for Toronto. Just fits the team perfectly.
It's a deal that fits for both teams really.
