They are all better prospect than Durzi/Grundstrom
If I take Muzzin trade for Exemple, MTL would be sending 2021 1st + Josh Brook + Cam Hillis or Joel Teasdale

You're missing the point, at the time Grundstrom and Durzi were regarded as B prospects. Durzi is more of a C now. Grundstrom is doing pretty dang good for the Kings right now.

At least 2 B prospects and a 1st is what it will cost for Ekholm.

I say more cause that contracts kind of a steal now. 3.75mill for 1.5 years. Not many top 4 LD with good defensive numbers come that cheap these days other than rookies on ELCs.

Especially in the flat cap era good cheap contracts wont be easy to acquire.

Durzi was traded as an 18 year old recent 2nd round pick not what he is now.
Grundstrom was a solid 21 year old prospect. He turned into a decent botton 6er too and former 2nd.

That would probably work, but you might want to see what some Preds fans think.

Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of either Poehling or Brook so I would hope NSH would reject that offer in favor of something else. If you replaced Poehling or Brook with one of the 5 prospects above, I would be more interested -- but not sure I would accept immediately. I've seen Frost + Hagg + 1st offered a few times on here, and I like that deal more than the proposed ones here.

Well Muzzin was making only $250K more, but I guess it depends what you think of Muzzin vs. Ekholm.

On the flip side, cap space wasn't as hot of a commodity back then with no flat cap and the expectation of a rising cap.

but remember Muzzin was traded before a pandemic happened resulting in a flat cap as the league be losing money. With the cap staying at 81.5 till at least 2023 cheap contracts like Ekholms will have higher value.

Am I crazy to think that from the Habs perspective we just shouldn’t do this at all? Our D is very solid why are we giving up assets to get marginally better. People are commenting that it isn’t enough and I’m not disagreeing I just think it would be crazy for the Habs to do this. Guy would have to sit through a 14 days quarantine also

Ekholm is wayyyyy better than every LHD that we have
Ekholm-Petry would be a real top pairing duo
I think if this year we think we’re going all in, why not

Ya I can see that but with ekholm having another year on his contract then we have to be begging Seattle to take one of edmundson or chiarot. IMO Allen is the guy right now especially the way he’s playing

The other way to go for Montreal if they made the Ekholm trade is to protect just Petry and Ekholm. Leave Edmundson, Chariot, Weber and Allen unprotected. Seattle can only select one. Either way if they lose one of those four players, Montreal would have nice cap space to get a replacement

Let's say Seattle pick Allen, you still have Ekholm-Petry Chiarot-Weber Edmundson-Romanov Kulak-Fleury Mete
If they pick Chiarot or Edmundson, good, we still have enough LHD so it doesn't change much

That's right. Good teams, such as Montreal are likely to lose a good starting player. Montreal has enough cap flexiblity to be OK next year. Montreal seems to about the most NHL prospects who will on ELCs for few years. Habs are looking good this year and for the next number years IMO

That depends a lot on Kotkaniemi Caufield Romanov
They need to reach their ceiling if we really want to be good
Otherwise it's just a decent team
