Detroit would rather retain 50% and get a 5th rounder for Staal. He’s played good hockey for us, no sense giving up the ~32nd pick to move him when he’s not an issue for us.

Makes no sense for Detroit considering we took him on for NYR 2nd round pick and the Detroit 2nd round pick is higher. Detroit would rather just hold onto him and keep the pick unless you had the pick on the wrong side.

prolly just add the condition where it is the lowest of the 2nd round picks. i just picked a random one

I do think it would be cool to see 3 staal brothers on the same team

The whole point of acquiring Staal for Detroit was for the pick though so why would they pay to dump him at the deadline? If you want him, then we can facilitate a trade with retention for a mid round pick coming to Detroit otherwise I’d doubt there would be interest.

Sabres would decline. They don’t need Gardiner’s bad contract.

Been there done that, with Jared instead of Marc. Eric coming back would be nice for a run at the deadline, but there is no reason to add Marc

foegele has been better than staal this year, gardiner isn't a bum, 2nd and third is more than enough, especially for an underperforming staal. foegele can be utilized in more situations for buffalo than staal is being utilized for so staal isn't even the best player in the trade.

Staal is averaging over 18 min a game and he has 2g and 4a on a team that can't score. I'm not saying you should take him but he is playing better than a lot of people think.

Well still they would much rather get a 3rd instead. Jake doesn’t waive for Buffalo either.

I never thought I'd see the day Jordan was the top scorer of the Staal brothers, yet here we are.

As for Marc, I'm not saying he's bad... but even if he was a genuine top 4 guy, the last thing Carolina need to work on is the defense. Gardiner is morphing into a stud, Slavin and Hamilton are as advertised, Pesce is still one of the best shut down D in the NHL. Bean, Skjei and Fleury are a really nice bottom pairing no matter which two you go with. Marc wouldn't really fit.

2 roster players a second and a third is worth less than a 3rd. sense. Gardiner would be second paring in buffalo and would provide value. and gards doesn't have negative value. his mistakes just got gaslighted cuz of the "reputation" he built in Toronto but in general he is a solid D man worth 3 mil and not 4 but buff has the cap space.

Red Wings aren't giving away a 2nd round pick. You give the Wings a 3rd/4th round pick for Staal.

Marc Staal is incapable of playing good NHL hockey

laugh laugh So Yzerman trades Marc Staal and basically gives up what will be a late 1st round pick, Yeah i don't think so we'll retain 50% for basically a 5th round pick for Staal.
