Interesting idea, fits both teams needs.

But it takes away too juicy from Toronto. Mikheyev has been a relentless fore checker and solid in his own end. Dermott has shown a vast improvement this season with his strength and defensive play. He's almost ready for top 4 minutes and I don't see Toronto throwing him away for a rental. Realistically the only upgrade here is Lowry's faceoffs over Mikheyev. I don't think that justifies enough value difference of Dermott and Mikheyev's extra year of his contract.

Leafs likely decline, good effort though.

Jets decline. Lowry has been awesome this year and he's a big part of this team

Winnipeg doesn't need bottom pairing LD or any wingers.

Leafs would be so stupid to decline this LOL, Lowry is better than mikheyev, and dermott is just a bottom pairing guy for us. Jets decline easy as Lowry is such a big part of our team and is starting to produce as well.

Agree with Ryminister27. Both Mikheyvev and Dermot have been solid. Leafs shouldn't be trading any competent NHL Dmen.

Dermott is miles better than Beaulieu. Dermott's a top 4 on this team any day of the week.

I'm not taking away anything from Lowry, but it's always a silly argument to call a NHL Dman a bottom pair. Dermot has played 17 minutes a game in the past two season. It's not like a team can have sh it ty Dmen and expect the team to be good.

Skill level wise, Dermott is a bottom pairing guy. Playing him above his head doesn't make him a top 4 guy or help the team he's playing for become better. Sure he's better than Beaulieu, but he's still a bottom pairing guy and doesn't help the Jets as much as Lowry does.

I think Lowry would be a great fit in Toronto, but because Mikheyevs on a cheap deal and is expansion exempt I don’t think that they wouldn’t wanna trade him though.

Jets have 3 better centres than Lowry right now. Copp can easily fill the 4C, so Lowry is slowly losing his place.

Dermott also wouldn't be "playing above his skill level" in a top 4 role. He's shown this year that he's capable of legit top 4 minutes with improved decision making and improved strength. He's one of the better skating d-man in the league to go along with it. He doesn't have the offensive numbers, although his underlying numbers show that he could breakout for more points, but he could be a very good top 4 shutdown guy. Plus Dermott has more contract control than Lowry. So Dermott is likely more valuable than Lowry in a trade.

Typical TML fan trade. Please do it on your own team

This trade is horrid for the Jets as we lose a valuable shutdown guy for two bottom line guys

This is what I’m saying, I understand leaf fans will say oh well dermott can be a top 4. Well, he’s had the chance to play with Reilly in Toronto, didn’t perform. He reminds me of Niku on the Jets. I do understand that anyone who isn’t a Jets fan doesn’t understand how valuable Lowry has been to us this year. He’s crucial to the team whether I like to admit that or not. This trade doesn’t work for either sides IMO.

Yes, Dermott would be playing above his level in the top 4. Lots of guys can be passable playing above their heads in small sample sizes. You even said yourself that he's shown he can play top 4 "this year". 15 games this season doesn't suddenly overrule the rest of his career as a bottom pairing guy. On the Jets, Dermott is behind Morrissey and Forbort on the left side in the short term and behind Morrissey, Heinola and Samberg long term. While Lowry has been playing fantastic for the Jets as a 3/4C and finally providing some offence.

Winnipeg isn't going to give that up for a marginal improvement to the bottom pairing defense this year.

Lol. It's called "development". When a young guy gets better, it means he's progressing. & Dermott is easily a top 4 on this team. He's way better than Forbort (can't believe I even have to say that). He's ahead of Heinola, sure long term you never know. Samberg is still a prospect, you don't know how he's gonna turn out. So getting a bonafide top 4 guy on a cheap deal should be a top priority for Winnipeg.

But sure, keep your 4th line centre who's gonna leave to free agency anyways.

Yeah, that's cool. I understand wanting to sell high on Dermott, but LD isn't a need for Winnipeg and the Jets aren't going to buy high based on 15 fluke games for Dermott. Yes, getting a bonafide top 4 guy, preferably RHD would be great for Winnipeg, unfortunately one isn't being offered in this deal. If Dermott was really a top 4 guy, you would want more than a rental 4C on return.

I literally said Toronto shouldn't do this..

Calling it "15 fluke games" just shows that you haven't watched Dermott play. He was trending this way last season and in the bubble too. Dermott can also play the right side well being a left handed shot, which adds value to him. I wouldn't do Dermott straight up for Lowry if I'm Toronto. That's a big loss of value for them alone.

Dermot's RHD playing partners in the past two season were Russian rookie Highevov (whatever) and Ceci, and he Dermot held up his end quite well. I really think it "ill informed" by hockey fans by have these stupid ratings if Dmen such as 1st and 2nd and 3rd pairing.
Let me know who you think the top pair is for the Leafs, I certainly don't know.
