Skinner for Karlsson

Created by: Rob32sjsharks
Team: 2020-21 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 19, 2021
Published: Feb. 19, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Buffalo trade:
Karlsson and Skinner straight up
This seems fair. Two outstanding players who need a fresh start with a different system to re ignite their careers this is good for both players and both teams

Okposo, a 1st, and a 2nd for Sorenson and true.
Sorenson is thrown in to even out the cap situation, True to help even out the value (Both will be decent bottom 6 players for Buffalo)
Okposo is going to cost a lot to dump that cap hit and the sharks need to jumpstart the rebuild.
The first can be top 15 protected.
Buffalo now has a premier D man to help jumpstart this team into legit contention and some cap space to go after what else they need.
Sharks get a bunch of picks and hopefully Skinner can rebound in our system and be a 20/25 goal scorer for us.
Okposo will be a 4th line waste for two years until we buy out his final year to help pay for Ferraro and Hertl’s raises.
Defensively we look weaker on paper but in real life it’s a more sound team in our own zone albeit with less offensive potential.
Jarred and Claesson are just placeholders for Merkley and Pashinuk next year.

What do people think?
Am I crazy? Does Buffalo do either trade? Does the sharks?

Doubt Buf does the KO. Their first is off limits. Suck and get a high pick with KO or suck and trade high pick without him. Choice is pretty obvious

As for Skinner for EK, idk. Both are really gross so prolly stick with the one that costs less

Hmmmmmmm..... Idk man. Is Karlsson that terrible? I mean to let him go for a cauldron like Skinner... Haven't seen ¸him for a long time outside of highlights but I don't think he is that terrible. Though Skinner is really bad you can't argue on that. It's not like he didn't have any chance...

I'm guessing Karlsson uses hi NMC to its fullest extent to block a Buffalo trade. I don't think the Sabres are that desperate to move Okposo he has turned himself into a nice grinder.

Skinner is 28 and had 40 goals a year and a half ago, so he’s not terrible and Karlsson isn’t fitting in with our system. He’s a great D man but getting screwed up playing with Burns, instead of both thriving with one another both are hurting eachother.
I feel like the same could be said for Skinner and Eichel I think both teams will get way more value out of the other teams player than their own.
And I see you point with Ok but if they want to keep Eichel happy the have to do something to ramp up their game. What about the 21 1st and the 22 2nd?

6 million a year Grinder doesn’t help your team win!
You guys need to step it up or Eichel is going to want out!
But I get it I wouldn’t trade a 1st and a 2nd to dump a contract either (well I would to dump vlasic or Jones lol) but we can’t because our prospect pool is shallow and we need top end talent bad in our minors.
You guys are fairly stacked in the minors so those two picks won’t hurt as much.... but still I get it.

Would EK waive his NMC to go to Buffalo? I think not. I think you are stuck with Erik.

I think if he sees it as a Chance to revive his career and play with guys like hall and Eichel and the kids they have there with the potential in 2-3 years to be cup contenders he might. San Jose Playoff window is closed and our cup contention is 5-6 years away at best right now. That Puts karlsson on a bottom dweller for the remainder of his productive years. I feel he would consider it.... but you might be right.

Not a Buffalo fan, I'm actually a Wild fan and then a Sharks fan 2nd.
But yes Sabres need to do something that's why I think they should consider the Karlsson trade, not sure the Sharks should though. Maybe if the Sabres added sweeteners. The thing with Karlsson is that the groin is a soft tissue injury so it will be a chronic condition and likely put him on LTIR before his contract is up so, I'd rather have him.
I agree 6 million is to much for a grinder but giving up draft picks, at least high ones probably isn't a great plan for the Sabres.

The groin will heal! But I see this being good and back for each party but I really do feel this would be the best thing for both teams

Not sure it's better but I do agree Karlsson and Skinner probably both need fresh starts.

That's a good point. Although who knows if Hall is sticking around. But the other variable might be the fact that Buffalo is close to Ottawa and his wife is from there....and, well, happy wife-happy life.

You NEVER should say Contender and Buffalo in the same sentence. It's like saying Brush ur teeth [...] Banana...
