I feel like that's too much for 2 years of Hertl.

Never going to happen sharks have said they are not trading Hertl so if you want him you have to offer massive overpay, and no one will.

Because they've had a good start?

Yes in part because of the good start and because of the cost. The GM of the Sharks would lose his job if that’s all it took to get him. If he didn’t have the extra year then I wouldn’t mind it, but Cats don’t need the extra $5.625 mil dollar hit next when resigning Barkov is a top priority. Wennberg has been just fine and they have Lundell coming.

IMO we will be looking back on the 2020 wondering how Lundell went 12th. No need to add right now, Panthers look like they are finally back on track.

Fair, but Hertl contract ends at the same time as Barkov. Lundell is unlikely to be ready for the 2C spot immediately, and it would be good to shelter him. Also, if we can do even better (as we would if we got another great player in Hertl) it might convince Barkov to stay for less

Buddy, is the argument that the Panthers don't need him or is it that he costs too much? Make up your mind. At this point, I know my trade is an underpay, I've had plenty of feedback.

Florida is one of the best teams in their division right now, but thinking that they'll still be that good with that center depth after the deadline when teams are going to be turning up the heat fighting for a playoff spot or when they are in the playoffs is ridiculous.
