Your misconceptions are the Wings have cap so they will eat crappy contracts for nothing. My god we are in a flat cap era right now, due to Covid, revenues are down. I know the Wings make good profits, per Forbes, but they are not just going to swallow Neal's contract and Turris's contract for 1 st round pick.

You say it is a fair trade, because you unload two contracts that are really bad and you give up a 1st in a down year and a prospect. In turn you also get Mantha and Gelndening, who alot of Wings fans bag on, but he is a very good face off guy and defensive forward.

This is all kinds of bad for Wings and really good for Edmonton.

Mantha is an enigma, but if he can just bring it every game it will help his cause. Just not ready to give him up.

Neal will only have two years left and Turris one year at $1.65. Do you realize how much money is coming off the cap for the Red Wings this offseason? They will have a hard time reaching the floor as it is while tanking for the 2022 draft.

What would you do to make it closer?

The first is to take Neal. So Holloway plus turris isn't enough. You would need to add in rodrigue and another prospect or pick.

So because you believe they will have issues reaching the floor they should take Edmonton's garbage on the cheap? No 20 other teams have really bad contracts they want to dump and not many teams have the space to take them therefore as the law of supply and demand goes those with the cap space charge a premium not "fair value" or slightly in Edmonton's favor it's going to be a win for Detroit or they pass.

Take Turris and Glendening out for arguments sake, it has nothing to do with the core deal. I just threw that in as a sweetener for Holland.

It’s Mantha for Neal, Holloway and a 1st round pick. You say Neal and the 1st cancel, except Oilers would say they don’t need to give up a 1st to ditch Neal and could just buy out Neal. So even tho Neal is a dump, it’s not really the same thing. And most would agree Mantha is better than Holloway NOW. So it’s Mantha for Holloway plus sweetener but not a 1st, maybe a second. Oil can’t or wouldn’t take a Mantha contact with Neal and Kassian on books. So send Neal back and bump up the pick. This helps Oilers be better now. Solidifies top 6 and can still resign Nuge. And helps Wings win in the future. Win Win.

My position is the Red Wings are going to be AWFUL WITH Mantha and AWFUL WITHOUT, and Neal in his place. So why not be awful with Neal while adding Holloway and an extra 1st. This trade is about 5 years from now. Mantha 5 years from now vs Holloway 5 years from now.
I think it’s fair, but maybe adding a 3rd rd pick going to Wings would be closer.

We owe it to Holland for giving us two 2nds for Athanasiou 😏🤣
I’m not sure you’re correctly evaluating the trade and Detroit’s state of the franchise. The tank for 2022 is on!

It really comes down to would you trade Mantha for Holloway (I don’t currently)? As Turris is worth nothing and the first rounder negates Neal’s negative value. Glendening may return a third at this years TDL but not a ton of value either.

When you factor in that we already have Zadina, Raymond, and Berggren as wing prospects or young roster players does it make sense to add Holloway instead of someone like Broberg?

Your probably going to get some push back on Neal too since most on this site don’t want to pay futures/prospects to unload cap space from underwhelming roster players.

I’m looking future.
From Detroit’s perspective it should be Mantha 5 years from now vs Holloway 5 years from now (Outlook good for Detroit)
And for Oilers it’s Mantha now vs Holloway now (outlook good for Oilers)

I promise you Stevie Y doesn't see himself owing Holland anything for the AA trade.
Edmonton can go buy Neal out then plenty of bad contracts out there for Yzermann to get picks from.

I actually had a 3rd in the trade for that reason. Thought somehow it’d look like too much for Oilers fans so I took it out. Holloway is just as good of a prospect as Broberg, especially if you think he can play center, which he could. Scout and writer Scott Wheeler for The Athletic had top of Oilers prospect pool ranked Bouchard 1, Hollaway 2, and Broberg 3 FWIW. Wings have D prospects coming and probably draft another early this year. Need more forwards, especially ones who can play center. Meanwhile Oilers probably value Broberg more and Holloway could be expendable for them.

Just depends on if Holloway is better suited at center or wing. Some say one and some say the other just like Edmonton fans valuing their prospects. I’d wager most Edmonton fans say both Broberg + Holloway are untouchable but I don’t really buy into “untouchable” as everything has a price. The main reason I mentioned Broberg is that defensemen take longer to develop to being NHL starters and a major area of weakness is LHD in our pipeline. I don’t think Detroit will have an issue hitting the cap floor especially if you target certain FA and cap dumps so Neal shouldn’t be looked at as aiding us hit the floor but rather weaponize cap space for futures.

If you don't give up a first for Neal then we say no deal sporto. It's Holloway, rodrigue, samo and a 2nd for mantha or no deal and you can keep Neal and you won't be getting mantha, it's pretty much end of story. We get what we want or keep him and are fine in our rebuild

Well that’s why he’s still considered just a prospect right?
Would you trade him to put Mantha next to McDavid in the now?

Honestly, to get the better player right now I think I do it. Mantha is very underrated and good! Holloway is going to be good too, but we need a player right now for McDavid not 2-3 years down the road. We shed Neals salary which is awesome!

The lines are all screwy. Should be mantha-mcdavid-puljujarvi and RNH-Drai-yamo. The ekholm trade is an overpayment especially given the play of Lagesson as a shutdown LD playing right where ekholm would play. Samorukov is also a very good shutdown guy who can move the puck and he will be ready for third pairing next year. I would trade Lagesson and a first for ekholm.

I don’t like that wings deal nothing against mantha but don’t need him so why give up two high end assets to get? Other ways to remove turris and or Neal. I wouldn’t go down this direction

Thanks, I fixed the lines. Otherwise you like the Mantha trade? Good value for both teams directions and his fit with McDavid??

I would not trade Holloway from an Oilers perspective.

I would go: Mantha + Glendening
For: Neal + Marody + Benson + Lavoie + 2022 1st

Lavoie likely needs time in the AHL, but Marody and Benson would probably crack the Red Wing line-up today.

Neals contract is easily bought out and Detroit with have a massive amount of cap room next year and will have a huge haul at this year's draft. This gives Stevie Y a chance to clear the decks and really put his stamp on the franchise moving forward.

I am not interested in moving Samorukov at this point for a rental.
