How much more would the add be? B prospect? Or someone like Kaut maybe?

Made a trade with TOR, paid Kerfoot+Liljegren+1st+3rd for Hall+Lazar. People mostly said that TOR must add.

Also can't really see Preds fans happy with the Granlund trade. They already have like 5 Comphers in their roster, no need to add one more. They need future assets for the guy, preferably centers.

Hall has a full NMC. He's going to get to pick exactly where he wants to go so I don't think Buffalo will be able to be too picky about getting a full value return.

I do wonder what sort of bidding war there is going to be for Hall. Obviously, he plays for a bad team but his underlying stats still look pretty solid overall. I would think a 1st alone wouldn't do it but you might get him for that first plus a good prospect and a B prospect.

Now that is a great point. They'll have to deal him to whichever team he says "yes" to for whatever they offer or just let him walk. In that case, maybe he really could be had for just that 1st.

Doesn't really matter if he wants to play in the playoffs, there's up to 25 better options than Buffalo.

BUF has also the option to keep the guy if they don't get the deal they like.

Correct: they are always free to say, "no thanks" and watch him walk for nothing after the season rather than get something. He is also free to say, "no thanks" when asked to waive to go to a non-playoff team in which case the Sabres still get nothing when he walks after the season.

If Hall wants a cup he'll say he wants to play in Colorado, who were/are the favourite this year.

Of course but I was just pointing out the absurdity of Buffalo simply saying "no" because they don't get what they want or him saying "no" because the best offer comes from a non-playoff team. We all knew this was a relationship of convenience for both parties but that relationship will have run it's course by April and each side will be looking out for their best interests. Hall will ask to be traded to one of a few true contenders, Buffalo will have to take what they can get or Hall walks after the season for nothing. Having the Sabres retain half his salary then accepting a 1st and some other assets (prospects, Compher or Donskoi, etc) that get the deal done is in their best interest. But they are free to say, "No, thank you." It wouldn't be wise or prudent but they are free to do so. Hall holds the high cards here.

1st + prospect, although we seem to want to re-sign Hall. Huh?

To be fair why the heck would a non playoff team make an inquiry about Hall in the first place?

Literally the only teams who might do it are playoff teams.

Why in the world would Hall, a guy who says he is tired of losing and will be 30 within a month of next season starting be even the slightest bit interested in re-signing in Buffalo? It is highly likely he tells them he will not be re-signing, wants a trade to a contender or will simply play out his contract then walk at season's end. Buffalo is not in control here, Hall is.

Well, they might want his negotiation rights and come in with a better offer but it's highly unlikely. My point was to say that your suggestion that Buffalo could say "no" if they don't get the deal they want is mostly moot considering Hall has complete immunity from a trade he doesn't like and Buffalo knows he walks and they get nothing if they don't find a place for him to land he would agree to.

Unless he actually agrees to re-sign with them. That's also a possibility.

Just don't see Hall's NMC becoming a problem for any team. If there's playoff teams willing to take Hall in, there's going to be many offers and BUF can most logically pick the one they like the most.

Hall may stay in Buffalo but his value at TDL with 50% retention would be a 1st, good prospect, and maybe a roster player to help balance cap. So from Colorado that'd look like a 2021 1st, Kaut/Bowers/Ranta etc. and a roster player if you wanna balance cap more

The Sabres are looking to extend Hall, a late first, especially a 31 or 32 overall which were 2nd round picks 5 years ago, is not going to be that interesting

Correct though unlikely; correct to a point: Hall gets to pick which one he really wants to go to even if it isn't the best offer or Buffalo gets nothing. Plus, they could trade him for some assets then re-sign him in the offseason.

1st + Ranta + Compher for Hall (50% retained) would be agreeable.

Because it was reported back in the summer and yesterday Lebrun said that the parties are discussing an extension. I don’t know Hall’s exact motivation, but maybe he just wants to get money and term and is afraid that he won’t get it in the UFA in another team.

Again, I ask, "What is the appeal for Hall to re-sign?" There's talk of Eichel, a top-10 play driver in the league, being so sick of the losing culture that he might ask for a trade or Buffalo trades him to get a rebuild going. That means, at best, they're 4-5 years out from even being reasonably competitive. Hall is 34-35 at that point. He says he's sick of losing but maybe he really does care about getting paid more than anything so I suppose it is possible he re-signs and plays out his years as a Hart winner that never really got anywhere close to a championship but is rich nonetheless.

If he really wants that sweet Buffalo cheddar, all he has to do is get traded to a real contender. He might even win a Cup. Then, he just re-signs with Buffalo in the offseason. Now he has a Cup and can just collect that Pegula money for the rest of his career and coast.

Yeah this contract talk just seems like Buffalo doing some PR to make it seem like Hall isn't as gettable as everyone thinks, to try to keep his price high.
