Big Offseason Moves

Created by: AkiLumme
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 20, 2021
Published: Feb. 21, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hertl trade occurs after the expansion draft. Similar value to what NJ got for Hall, which I think is reasonable. Hall's the better player but you get a full year of Hertl.

Not sure how most Sharks fans feel, personally I would take this. I think it is on par with his value, but because the Sharks seem to not wanna give him up, they want a team to overpay. Niemela would be a great get, we need another RD prospect cuz we legit have 1, then obviously Amirov is great and then likely a late second.

He does need more ice time than third line minutes tho. I'm also not sure he fits the Leafs playing style too great. Think kinda low grade Malkin. Not a tough guy, but super strong physically, great puck possessor and board player. Not sure the Leafs would use him that way.

Gotta think Philly says yes to this. Even with limited term Reilly is too good to pass up

Rather have Sanheim with rfa years over Reilly who's ufa after one year.

I'd probably take that as SJ.

All of those qualities sound like they would fit in nicely with the Leafs given their emphasis on puck possession and need for players that are strong on the boards. Agree that 3C is a bit beneath Hertl, but I would envision him getting plenty of time in the top 6 and PP.

If Philly doesn't think they can re-sign Rielly this probably doesn't make sense for them.

Because you'd rather they re-sign him, or you don't think it's fair value?

He's going to want 7+ which we can't afford.

I don't like the SJ deal, niemela is our best Rd prospect and will be sandin's partner in the future I would swap it for liljegren but no to niemela.

I think people are vastly over-rating Niemela based on a few good games against weak opponents in the WJC, while also under-rating Liljegren based on a few poor games in the NHL.

I would say that's a fair assumption, but I had that opinion before the WJ.
