Makes no sense for the Leafs to trade two NHL Dmen and only get one in return. Leafs won't be carryover four NHL goalies.

Better than most TOR deals I see on here for Ekholm, but Ekholm should get a better return that Kapanen and this is slightly worse that that deal (it was an overpay for Kap, but still)

I find it interesting because it does mimic the return LA got for Muzzin a lot closer than most Ekholm proposals. Dermott might be a better piece than either Grundstrom or Durzi were thought to be at the time of that trade, but seeing as how he could be lost for nothing in expansion or waivers mitigates that I think.



I don't think it's ideal for NSH either. My biggest problem with taking Dermott is that NSH has a handful of longer in tooth D prospects they should fish or cut bait on in 21-22 (Carrier, Allard, Davies). Having Dermott in the mix, without the freedom to move him up and down without waivers just complicates that. If TOR fans feel Dermott is too much of an asset to the current top 6 to throw in to an Ekholm trade, I totally respect that.
