I don't understand the logic in your additional details section. Iaffalo would very likely be left exposed with the Leafs, having just as good a chance of being taken by Seattle (by means of negotiating a contract) as he would if he were left exposed by the Kings. If Iaffalo wants to stay a King, that's completely in his hands, so long as the Kings want him back. If they truly believe that he does want to return, I understand the want to get assets for a player that will just re-sign with you in a few months, but I don't see the impact of Seattle in this scenario.

Really don't think he'd be a good fit there.

Because the Kings would have to resign him before he becomes a free agent and we'd have to protect him. I suppose there can be an agreement made to sign him after July 1st or whatever the day is so they don't have to protect him, but it would make more sense to talk to him about resigning in the future then trading him for those assets and give him a shot at a Cup before bringing him back.

no. We do not do this

Leafs are not paying a potential future top 4 defenseman for a couple months of Iafallo. He is good but not worth it. Also he is has to quarantine for 14 days before joining the leafs. There are better options for the leafs

The Expansion Draft takes place about a week before free agency. You wouldn't have to re-sign him before the ED to ensure he doesn't hit UFA status. If you're sure he wants to come back, you can just negotiate an extension and wait until after the ED to make it official. It's what I expect the Leafs are going to do with Hyman.

in general im all for renting Iafallo for a playoff run. The guy can play SH, has shown he can play in the top 6 and at 1.2mill is a steal for a team low on space. Sure its risky losing Liligren but with how well Holl has played and with the addition of Brodie I dont know if we got room for him to make a claim in the top 4. Sure he can play 3rd pairing but having 2 young dman with little nhl experience on a pairing is way to risky. Sandin will be the future of the Dcore and Dubas can find him a veteran d-partner to mentor him at the third pairing.

It's nothing to do with the price, I just don't think Iafallo is a good fit to play alongside JT and Willy.

UFA’s don’t require protection.

Well it’s basically just lily because you have the kings sending a second back to the leafs. Don’t think leafs move him considering him he’s basically nhl ready and can slide in next year.

u could play him on the third line and create a potential HBK line

Iafallo-Kerfoot-Hyman

Mikheyev can play with Tavares and Nylander

You could, I suppose, but the rumour is that the Leafs want a guy who can play with those two, and it's just my own opinion that he's not a great option for that.

Seattle won't take Iafallo over guys like Dermott and Holl.

Seattle won't take Iafallo over guys like AA, JAD, Lizotte, Clague, or some of the other good young guys LA has.

I much rather use the 7th/4th protection spot on one of the young guys if I can.

Its not that Iafallo isn't good enough to protect, its just that there is a way to not have to protect him and hopefully still keep him come free agency.

Kopitar and Tavares play a similar game and Iafallo has complimented Kopitar so well, he's been on his line for 4 straight seasons. Take that for what it's worth, I'm just throwing it out there.

This is exactly my point... If you think Iafallo wants to come back, there is no need to trade him for Expansion Draft benefits. Just don't protect him.

What do you want? Tavares has the ability to make plays, score goals, defend the puck, and shut down defensively. Nylander can make plays and drive the play. Iafallo is very good defensively, he can drive the play, has power forward/grinder attributes, has a really good one timer, great forechecker that creates lots of turnovers, good passer, good penalty killer, and brings much more.

Almost sounds like a match made in heaven lol

Because the Kings will resign him and protect him, pretty sure I covered that already. Blake won't wait till free agency to resign him, that's not his style.

He's an absolutely horrid forechecker (worst on the Kings last year), which is the main thing I'm looking for. I want a guy who wins pucks effectively and often, and either retains possession by getting the puck back up high or makes high danger passes after winning the puck. He does none of this to a high degree.

I have nothing against him as a player, understand, he's extremely talented, just not what I'm looking for.
