Players that need a change and building depth give a read

Created by: gmack95
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 22, 2021
Published: Feb. 22, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Tatar, Tomas
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Tatar would fit better with Malkin than Zucker. I do not want to make this trade because Zucker was good with Sid and Guentzel was good with Malkin, but Sullivan wont go back to it for some reason.
MTL
  1. Zucker, Jason
  2. 2021 5th round pick (PIT)
2.
PIT
  1. 2021 4th round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
EDM needs a dman since Koekkoek is done for the year. Riikola would fit nicely there.
EDM
  1. Riikola, Juuso
  2. 2021 7th round pick (ANA)
3.
PIT
  1. Cousins, Nick
  2. Haula, Erik
Additional Details:
Penguins help create a 3rd Line "B". Cousins will help make the Pens harder to play against and Haula would have opportunity on the second PP unit.
NSH
  1. Jankowski, Mark
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (PIT)
4.
PIT
  1. Virtanen, Jake
  2. 2021 4th round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
VAN gets a LW that could replace Pearson and/or Virtanen. Jake gets a fresh start in PIT.

don't see VAN taking McCann back.

if Koekkoek is out and EDM needs defense the right body to move is Matheson. Which if Klefbom isn't coming back would make total sense.
I don't see them moving Riikola, his cap hit isn't high and they don't gain anything in moving him. The depth is worth more than a 4th. But that isn't an unreal expectation return for him.

Montreal Can't pick up Zucker contract. With a flat cap for the next couple of season the Habs already have commited over 20 million for their top 6 winger. They need to keep their money to pay their upcoming RFA.

Maybe trade Zucker before expansion or leave exposed? Could give them Zucker to take Byron-- like FLA did with VGK

There's a reason the Canucks traded McCann in the first place stop trading him back

Oilers still have Bear, Jones, Lagesson and Lennstrom. Bear and Lagesson should be back in the next day or two. So we dont need more D. We had so many that we are fine in that position.

Exactly. By the time any D arriving from an American team would be out of isolation Bear and Lagesson are almost surely both back and playing ahead of them. And besides, when the roster is fully healthy, Koekkoek was probably about our 7th/8th D now. Russell has clearly been better anyway the past dozen games imo. If, by disaster, another Dman goes down Tuesday, a trade with a Canadian team I would have to think is more likely (eg. Kulak or Mete) so they can play immediately. But for now, glad Jones will get his look.

they already have a tons of draft pick to send a players to Seattle. If Tatar is traded i assume that Bergevin will be looking for a younger pieces like he does almost every trade. I just don't see that trade happening unless they take back Byron contract to balance thing out.
