The Avs one made sense at the time. Avs got what they needed, and the Leafs got what they thought they needed. A lot of Leafers around here would have accepted a box of bic pens for him after the 2nd playoff suspension.

The Pens one was kind of funny...(ex)GMJR was one of the biggest wildcats in the league, and could be trusted to throw away 1st rounders extremely liberally. I can't imagine any other GM in the league offers that type of trade for Kap though.

I think the Avs one many said it was a great deal by TO but it turned out better for the Avs. The Pens one is a slam dunk win for TO. Was when it happened and is still today.

the value was fair with the Avs, but the fit for Barrie was bad based on the coach of Babcock, it never made sense to trade for a guy like Barrie when he was the HC

Everyone on this website is wrong all the time. Our collective perception of players, picks, prospects will differ greatly from the various GMs.

exactly what I think. that's why it's kinda foolish to say that a certain team declines and stuff like that bc unless it's like super obvious, no one knows what value gm's hold on certain players

True but one thing is sure, most on sure hold a heavy bias towards their teams. As a leaf fan, I also see a huge proportion of posters on here having a heavy bias against the Leafs as well.

I think it also depends how it's worded.
Amirov vs 1st round pick is two different values. Some people might not have liked that selection. After all Guhle and Mercer could have been taken there.

Generally, it's because we naturally overvalue our own teams players/prospects. This isn't unique to Toronto fans and isn't unique to sports fans in general, you'll always have some sort of bias on the things you like (ie sports teams) and the things you're more knowledgeable about (ie the players/prospects). Couple this with the fact that there are more Leafs fans on here than anyone else, and you get a lot of ACGMs where someone is proposing a trade which they think its fair value but to the other team might be blatant overpayment, or ignore their needs. Repeat this several times a day and eventually you get sick of the blue maple leaf showing up.

I think people take this website and this board too seriously. None of these proposed trades are real, none of them will actually happen.

Believe it or not, there were Avs fans who accurately predicted the trade of Barrie for Kadri. It made a lot of sense for the Avs, and Avs fans loved the trade right from Day 1.

From a Leafs perspective the trade was never really going to work that well because Barrie wasn't the type of Dman they needed, and was also only 1 year term.

It took a while for Leafs fans to listen to what Avs fans said about Kerfoot when the trade happened as well.
