That's a long time to retain cash for ANA

I mean, the Rico waiving was apparently a combination of "Sending a message"(However dumb that may be), and an attempt to potentially save money.
T
his trade has the Ducks taking on, including retention, $14.8625 mil.

If they buy him out this summer, it's 6 x $1.94=$11.64. Obviously it's spread out more, but I'm also not convinced that Seattle wouldn't take a chance on him in expansion (Even if it meant the Ducks ponying up a bit).

Henrique is still a decent player (Overpaid, but not by a ton). I'd assume we'll see him back in the lineup sooner rather than later anyway.

Anaheim should be paying Buffalo to take it at 50%, they end up with the better forward and Dman somehow

I agree. I personally think we should claim him and figure out the cap. Even at the slight overpay I think he's valuable. The thought of Eakin and Miller was trying to address their need at RHD and giving them a cheaper depth centre back. I would still do this trade likely without the retention.

Do you seriously think Eakin is better than Henrique? That opinion has me on the floor... Eakin has been terrible!

Eakin isn't better than Henrique and Miller is both worse than Larsson and only signed for one more year.

Henrique is going to become productive again before Eakin will, and Larsson is playing so well that we might protect him from Seattle rather than Manson or Shattenkirk. This is a good idea for Buffalo but aside from the financial aspect, which is not as significant as it might be for less well-run teams, it doesn't help Anaheim.

Yeah, I was slightly surprised that someone didn't claim him, but I feel like money owed is a huge concern for NHL teams right now. It's why I think Seattle will end up with a bajillion 1st round picks.
