My line of thinking was 4th rounder and low end prospect at most.

I think a 3rd and prospect gets it done because he is playing well and yeah I'm with you on trying to get him.

It'll cost an overpay that's not worth it. If a 3rd and prospect got it done I'm sure many teams would jump on it. Realistically he's a 4th line player having a good year on a terrible team, which doesn't scream "upgrade" to any contending team. I'd think Ottawa would start with a 2nd, Stepan got that and he's overpaid and does less. Ottawa coaches and management loves him and he's cheap plus signed through next season on a cost controlled deal. So for most teams, a 2nd and a prospect would probably be the target. For Toronto, being a divisional rival, I'd bet Ottawa asks for something similar to the Blake Coleman deal last year with a 1st and a top prospect. & with him only being anything relevant in the NHL just this season, it's not worth it. Leafs walk away in a heartbeat

Why would Ottawa trade him for that? He's way more valuable on the team. Ottawa really has no incentive to trade him unless they're getting really good value. He's shown this year he can play all situations in more than just a depth role, there's no reason he can't be a part of this team longer term.

Exactly. He's a versatile player, and a great role model for younger players. If Ottawa isn't getting really good value for moving him, they won't move him. Sens will look to improve going forward, and Paul helps them do that more than a mid round pick. No reason he can't be the new Zack Smith type depth piece for Ottawa.

He’s big, fast and strong. Has a good shot and can create plays, not frustrating to watch at all. Why would anyone trade him for a 3rd and a random prospect

What does Ottawa need with another mid round pick at this stage? Best case scenario for most mid round picks is they can maybe be a Nick Paul level player five years down the road.

This right here is exactly it. He's 25 and playing very well; why would the Sens move him for an awful offer of a 4th and a low end prospect? They can just hang on to him and happily keep him around, or trade him to another team who will pay twice as much. A guy like Barclay Goodrow is a great example of what these kinds of guys go for; Barclay had 24 in 62 and was having a career year and went along with a 3rd for a 1st and Anthony Greco. Paul had 20 in 56 last year and has 8 in 20 this year so he's already more impressive than Goodrow has ever been. You can bet Ottawa is going to get more than a 4th and a low end prospect.

Or, again, they'll hang on to him and keep him around as a leader. It's a win win and there's no incentive to move him for anything other than an overpay.
